It evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. Yoga (/ˈjoʊɡə/; Sanskrit, योग Listen) is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures (asanas) practised for health and relaxation. Slings Myofascial Training is a holistic movement concept that can be incorporated into Yoga, Pilates and other body-minded practices. Fascia-focused training aims for structural integration, functionality and inside-out wellbeing through conscious movement and adding a new dimension to your practice.

The diaphragm is a biological trampoline that coats the lower half of the rib cage. The diaphragm’s tensions, tone, and function give your body its breeze. As a partition within your torso, it also “compartmentalizes” your viscera and acts as a soft tissue ceiling for your guts, and a mobile mattress for your heart and lungs. The multiple systems of your integrated body revolve around this hub within you.

When you breathe in, your diaphragm descends and applies pressure to your gut. If your abdominal muscles are always on, especially the transversus abdominis, your diaphragm cannot descend, your ability to breathe is impeded, and you’ll be locked in a sympathetically aroused state. The lack of rhythmical movement on your guts affects digestion and visceral mobility. Athletes tend to have intensely trained cores that are very good at generating tension but not so adept at “letting go.” Scar tissues anywhere in the trunk can also snarl the intrinsic mobility of the diaphragm and create breath and pain challenges.

One of the great things about taking care of your diaphragm is that when you unlace its stiffness, stickiness, and disobedience, all of the neighboring tissues are invited to the party. They are, after all, “breath friends forever.” Take care of your diaphragm, and it will take care of you!
