Hey Lipedema ladies, I heard your frustrations, I heard that health professionals are overlooking Lipedema specific research and I have filled that gap.

Because lets face it.. Lipedema is not a cosmetic issue or simply obesity. It is a complex, multi-system condition involving connective tissue dysfunction, vascular and lymphatic changes, chronic inflammation, and nervous system sensitisation.

Patients present with disproportionate fat distribution, but also with persistent pain, tenderness, easy bruising, and a range of associated comorbidities that significantly affect daily function and quality of life.

These symptoms are often dismissed or reduced to weight alone, despite growing evidence that they reflect a genuine and measurable disease process.

Pain in lipedema especially tenderness to touch and neuropathic-like sensations should be taken seriously as a marker of underlying pathology, not minimised as subjective discomfort.

Improved outcomes depend on earlier recognition, validation of symptoms, and a multidisciplinary approach that moves beyond outdated weight-centric models.

As Lipedema ladies — we are not asking to be believed without evidence, we are asking to be heard in light of it.

When we think about lipedema management we cannot separate it from the nervous system.

For years I felt depressed, agitated, angry and despondent close to my period. This took a toll on my health, my work and my relationships. The anti-depressants my doctor prescribed only just took the edge off.

I thought well ‘The doctors know what they are doing so this must be part of my crappy personality.’ And got on with it — masking as hard as I could to pretend I was fine.

However, when I was diagnosed with ADHD and went on medication for it, suddenly my mood improved dramatically and I came off my anti-depressants. I was able to make real changes to my health and my inner thoughts about who I was as a person.

Last year I learnt about Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and I had a ‘Why the hell has no doctor ever considered this moment.’

I then started connecting the dots to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), trauma, and lipedema.

We need to move this conversation forward because Lipedema is:

Not just hormones.
Not just fat.
Not just food.

But the entire system.

So ladies if you have Lipedema and are experiencing these kind of intense mood episodes too — advocate for yourself and make your doctor listen and if they don’t get a new one like I did.

We’re starting to see a pattern in lipedema that can’t be ignored because this is not just one condition.
There are multiple hormone-driven gynecological conditions showing up together a phenomenon known as clustering.

Women with Lipedema are being found to have higher rates of conditions like:
Endometriosis
Polycystic O***y Syndrome
fibroids
PMDD

Emerging research suggests this isn’t random, as these conditions share underlying drivers of hormonal dysregulation, chronic inflammation, and immune system involvement. We are frustrated because health professionals are treating these conditions in isolation and this is why so many women feel stuck.

Lipedema isn’t just a fat disorder, it is a nervous system, immune, and metabolic condition happening all at once.

We know studies on lipedema tissue show enlarged fat cells, increased macrophages, and changes to blood and lymphatic vessels (Al-Ghadban et al., 2019). With higher levels of inflammation, including mast cell activity which are known to release histamine and inflammatory cytokines (Theoharides et al., 2015; Afrin, 2016).

Why does this matter? Well this explains that inflammation doesn’t just stay in the tissue, it actually feeds into the nervous system.

Chronic stress has been shown to directly influence immune behaviour, increasing inflammatory signalling and altering how the body responds to stress over time (McEwen, 2007). There’s even a recognised “inflammatory reflex” connecting the nervous system and immune system. This means your brain and immune response are constantly communicating (Tracey, 2002).

And when inflammation becomes chronic?

Well, it starts signalling back to the brain and research shows this can impact mood, fatigue, and pain sensitivity which is known as neuroinflammation (Dantzer et al., 2008).

Now we layer in connective tissue.

Collagen and extracellular matrix structure which are altered in conditions like lipedema and hypermobility and are regulated by enzymes like MMPs, which are influenced by inflammation, hormones, and oxidative stress (Nagase et al., 2006; Theocharis et al., 2016).

So when you zoom out, this isn’t separate issues to me, this is
one connected system:

Nervous system → immune activation
Immune system → inflammation
Inflammation → impacts fat, lymphatics, and tissue structure

And the loop continues.

So genetics may load the gun… but the environment, stress, and inflammation pull the trigger.

Who am I and what do I do?

About Elle

I have lipedema myself and I’m also a two-time cancer survivor (stage 2 and stage 4) in my early 20s. That experience completely changed the direction of my life and led me to dedicate my career to helping women feel strong, confident, and healthy in their bodies.

As a Lipedema coach, I help women create sustainable changes in mindset, nutrition, movement, and habits so they can improve strength, body composition, and overall wellbeing while living with lipedema.

My program is designed specifically for women with lipedema who want to build strength, reduce inflammation, and reconnect with their bodies in a sustainable way.

Hey Lipedema ladies.. If you have ever thought:

“Why do I have SO many random symptoms?”
“Why does nothing work properly for me?”
“Why do I feel like my body is fighting me all the time??”

This is why.

Lipedema actually sits in a web of other conditions that affect your hormones, nervous system, and inflammation. You have just never seen the full picture and underlying symptom clusters until now!

Menopause & Lipedema: How I Can Help 💜

As a coach, part of my job is to watch for the early signs of lipedema especially during menopause, when hormonal changes can affect fat distribution and the lymphatic system. Lower estrogen levels can sometimes trigger or worsen the condition.

If you notice your legs or arms becoming heavier, more sensitive, or swelling in ways that don’t improve, that’s a signal to take action. Catching it early makes a huge difference in managing symptoms and preventing complications.

I work with women to:
• Spot these warning signs early
• Access the right treatments and healthcare support
• Create personalised lifestyle strategies; exercise, nutrition, and hormonal health to manage the condition

💜 You don’t have to navigate this alone.

Let’s have some real talk about Lipedema fat removal surgeries.

If I had stopped after surgery I would still be where I was on the left.

But if I had done that…
I would not have lost another 22kg.
I would not be as strong, mobile, or pain free and fit as I am now.

For women with lipedema, surgery is not a fix-all it is a RESET button you only get once. As liposuction removes diseased fat cells for good and that matters because it creates less inflammation, reduces load and gives your lymphatic system a chance to start working more efficiently again.

ladies what happens after surgery is what determines whether things truly change.

Training matters
Nutrition matters
Consistency matters

Surgery did 50% of the job and the other 50% was me showing up, rebuilding trust with my body, and giving it the right inputs so it could finally evolve and heal.

If you’re considering surgery, or you’ve already had it and feel unsure about “what now” hear this clearly:

Surgery doesn’t replace lifestyle.
It amplifies it.

And when you get it right the second time around, the results aren’t just physical they’re sustainable and you 100% can achieve what I have.

Skipping breakfast with lipedema? Here’s why you might be sabotaging yourself and your goals!

• Lipedema tissue is highly sensitive to stress hormones, especially cortisol. Skipping breakfast can delay and prolong cortisol release, keeping your body in a higher stress state later in the day.
• Elevated or mistimed cortisol can worsen inflammation, fluid retention, and pain in women with lipedema
• Missing the morning meal often destabilises blood sugar, increasing cravings, fatigue, and energy crashes that make movement and consistency harder.
• For a body already managing connective tissue dysfunction, poor nutrient timing adds another layer of metabolic stress.
• With lipedema, when you eat can be just as important as what you eat for hormone balance and nervous system regulation.
