We were completely spoiled today by an incredible class from Hill Primary School. 💛

Franklin Hospice was chosen as their class charity, and the students created the most thoughtful “Kindness Cups” filled with goodies and individual handwritten notes for our team.

It’s hard to explain just how much these gestures mean. Our staff and volunteers spend their days caring for others, so to receive such genuine kindness in return was incredibly special.

Thank you to every student, teacher, and whānau involved. Your compassion and thoughtfulness absolutely made our day — and reminded us why community is at the heart of everything we do. 💚

One of the biggest things I’ve realised since joining Franklin Hospice is how misunderstood hospice care still is.

Many people hear the word “hospice” and immediately think:
• cancer
• final days
• or “there’s nothing more that can be done”

But that is only a very small part of the story…..

Hospice is about helping people with life-limiting illness make the very most of the time they have — whether that is months or sometimes many years.

We support people living with a wide range of conditions, not just cancer, and often walk alongside patients and whānau over long periods of time. Many people dip in and out of hospice support throughout their journey depending on what they need at the time.

Sometimes that support is clinical.
Sometimes it’s emotional.
Sometimes it’s practical.
Sometimes it’s simply helping someone feel less alone.

We support not just patients, but the people who love and care for them too. And importantly — our care continues afterwards through bereavement and family support.

Franklin Hospice receives only around half of the funding needed from Te Whatu Ora. The rest comes from our community through donations, fundraising, retail shops, grants, sponsorship and bequests.

That’s why awareness matters so much.

There are a few really simple ways you can help us to help our community:

• Follow our page
• Share our posts
• Help us educate others about what hospice really is
• Talk about hospice within your workplace, networks and community

Every share genuinely helps us reach more families who may need support — and more people who may want to help make that care possible. 💙

Thank you
