If you’re thinking about swimming with your contact lenses, think again.
Contact lenses help you live a more active life, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to exercise caution.
Swimming with your contacts may lead to a whole host of problems.
WHY?
🔹The simplest reason is that your lenses could get washed out of your eye. That’s bad enough in most cases.
Your contact lenses can also trap bacteria and chemicals from the water, and keep them in contact with your eye. This can cause infection, inflammation, and many other problems.
ACANTHAMOEBA KERATITIS
🔹One of these threats is Acanthamoeba keratitis, a rare eye infection caused by microscopic organisms found in soil and water that can seriously threaten vision.
SYMPTOMS OF ACANTHAMOEBA KERATITIS
🔹A red, painful eye infection
🔹Blurred vision with a foreign body sensation, tearing, and a sensitivity to light
🔹An usually long period of red, irritated eyes—even after removing your contacts
👁️Look after your eyes this summer, and don’t take the risk.
