Another workshop perhaps?

This is Benoit Roger, our amazing friend and colleague from Alchemia Solutions in Quebec.

We have some exciting news - he’s coming to New Zealand! We have two amazing workshops planned (more on that soon) and he’s going to have some time for private workshops too.

But first, for those who don’t know Benoit, here is a bit about him that begins to explain why you really should come and meet him…

Benoit is a Canadian-based phytochemist, and the CEO of Alchemia Solutions, a company dedicated to the research and exploration of the plant world. His work involves teaching workshops, consulting on distillation start-ups, and the design and production of top-quality stainless steel stills and equipment. He holds a PhD in Natural Products Chemistry from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in France, and combines this knowledge of plant chemistry, essential oils, the processes and production of equipment with a deep love of plants.

He’s brilliant to work with, and he’s even better to learn with.

🧠 Know your Latin binomials.
Because "lavender" isn’t always 𝘓𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘢—and that matters.

When it comes to essential oils and other aromatic substances, using the Latin binomial (scientific name) is more than just sounding smart—it’s essential for safety, accuracy, and effectiveness.

There are many plant species that share a common name but have completely different chemical profiles. For example:

Lavandula angustifolia (true lavender) is calming and safe for most.

Lavandula latifolia (spike lavender) contains camphor—great for respiratory blends, but not ideal for kids or sensitive skin.

Knowing the Latin name helps you:
- choose the right oil for your intended use
- avoid allergic or adverse reactions
- understand the oil’s chemistry
- shop from reputable sources who label their products properly

Bottom line: If it doesn’t list the Latin binomial, don’t put it in your diffuser (or your cart). Double tap if you agree!
