Justus, one of our amazing kiritaki, has recently shared his experience of having a stroke at just 18 years old. His symptoms were initially mistaken for intoxication in a nightclub; a misunderstanding that highlights how easily stroke can be overlooked in younger people.

Since then, Justus has navigated a long journey of recovery, adaptation, and rebuilding life after a major health event. By choosing to speak openly about what happened, he’s helping raise awareness that stroke can affect anyone, and that recognising the signs and acting quickly is crucial.

You can read his full story here 👇

Justus Smith had a stroke when he was 18. He wants people to know that stroke can happen to anyone, including young people.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we chose to support Look Good Feel Better NZ, an organisation that supports people living with cancer through free programmes that boost confidence, wellbeing, and help them feel like themselves again during treatment.

Thanks to the generosity of our amazing team, our donation drive raised $280 to support their incredible mahi!

To wrap up our campaign, we held a vibrant Pink Day at our Ops Conference; a chance to come together as a team, raise awareness, and show support for people and whānau affected by cancer.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, dressed up, and helped make this month so meaningful. Your generosity and aroha have made a real difference 💙🩷

Our Auckland, Waikato, and Wellington teams came together on Sunday for the Multiple Sclerosis Auckland Life Buoy event! 🧡

It was a beautiful day of connection; great company, good food, and an overwhelming sense of generosity. Truly inspiring to be in a room full of people coming together behind such an important cause and standing in support of those in our community living with MS.

A special thank you to Marie, one of our incredible caregivers, for joining us and sharing the day with us.

We’re proud to once again be sponsoring the Table Tennis New Zealand Para Table Tennis Festival! 🏓

It’s a privilege to be part of such an inspiring event and the vibrant community that makes it so special. This festival is a wonderful celebration of para table tennis and the incredible athletes who bring passion, skill, and determination to the game.

Kia ora! 🌿

This week we’re celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week - and taking the opportunity to bring a little more Te Reo into our daily lives at Care On Call 💙🩷

Language is a powerful way to connect, and for everyone in our community, including the kiritaki we care for and the team who support them, using Te Reo in everyday kōrero (conversation) can help keep it alive in our kāinga (homes) and hapori (communities) 🌱💬

We’ve gathered a few simple Te Reo Māori kupu (words) and kīanga (phrases) that you can use with kiritaki and whānau. Why not try using one this week?

Person with disability = Tāngata Whaikaha
Accessibility = Whakatapoko
Support Worker(s) = Ngā Tuarā Tautoko
Care Plan = Mahere Tautiaki
How can I help? = Me pēhea au e āwhina?

Next week is MS Awareness Week! 🌟

Multiple Sclerosis Auckland are kicking things off strong this Sunday with Battle of the Boots, a celebrity football game raising funds to support those living with multiple sclerosis ⚽

If you’re in Auckland, head along to Birkenhead AFC at Shepherds Park on Sunday afternoon for a fun family day out! There’ll be raffles, a sausage sizzle, and of course a great game of football. 🙌
