Team Spotlight: Silvia Rosioru 👋

We’re excited to continue our weekly series shining a light on the team behind The Hearing House.

Next up is Silvia Rosioru, our Information and Data Systems Lead, who plays a key role in supporting the systems and processes that underpin our cochlear implant programme.

Silvia joined The Hearing House in 2018, and since that time has developed a strong interest in the intersection of data and real-world impact, and how it can help improve services for clients and their whānau.

Following on from our Team Spotlight on Nathan Lowe, we’re excited to share the first video in his three-part series.

In this short video, Nathan explains how the hearing system works in a simple, easy-to-understand way, from how sound travels through the ear to how our brains interpret sound.

It's a great starting point if you’ve ever been curious about what happens behind the scenes when we process sound.

Keep an eye out for the next videos in the series, where Nathan will explore hearing aids and cochlear implants.

Team Spotlight: Meet Nathan Lowe 👋

We’re excited to launch a new weekly series shining a light on the team behind The Hearing House.

First up is Nathan Lowe, one of our audiologists, who will also be guiding a new three-part video series all about how the hearing system works, and how hearing aids and cochlear implants can help those with hearing differences.

Nathan joined The Hearing House in 2024 -- what drew him to audiology is the mix of science and people-focused care, combining clinical understanding with communication and support for clients and their whānau.

📣 Digital Seniors Group – latest session + next date 📣

Thanks to everyone who joined our recent Digital Seniors group. It was a great session of learning and sharing.

Bronwyn, our speech-language therapist who co-runs the group, covered communication and hearing technology use in everyday life (not audiology troubleshooting). Grant from Digital Seniors covered key online safety and digital confidence skills. We covered CI apps, accessories, and device compatibility, video calling with cochlear implants, and online safety including passwords, email, and banking basics. It was a practical and valuable session with plenty of useful takeaways.

If this sounds interesting and valuable to you, then come along to our next session on Friday, 5th June.

See the flyer for details – we hope to see you there!

Eviana’s dream sets sail ⛵

Tauranga-based kiritaki/client Eviana Peterson recently took part in a five-day Spirit of Adventure voyage, turning a long-held dream into reality.

Eviana embraced every moment onboard, from climbing the rigging to sailing the Hauraki Gulf, proving that challenges don’t have to hold you back.

Her advice? Just go for it!

Now she’s setting her sights on a 10-day voyage and hopes to one day support others on their own journeys 🙌

Connect & Share is heading to Hamilton this month! 🎉

After positive feedback from our Auckland sessions, we're expanding our Connect & Share sessions to Hamilton for the first time.

Designed for kiritaki/clients, their whānau and support people, these small, supportive groups create a space where people can feel seen, heard, and connected. The response in Waikato has already been very strong, showing just how important these opportunities are.

As family/whānau support counsellor Hazel Benson-Dawe shares, meaningful impact happens when you bring people together then you see real conversations, sharing of lived experiences, and a sense of reassurance that you’re not alone.

Our audiologists Nick and Bri travelled to Tauranga recently to run outreach clinics in the community there.

They spent time at Papamoa Sports and Recreation Centre and Kia Roha, seeing a range of our kiritaki/clients for cochlear implant reviews and checking in on general hearing health.

We visit the Bay of Plenty region regularly throughout the year to ensure our care is more accessible to our kiritaki and their whānau — we can see them closer to their homes, schools and workplaces and it also means they don't have to travel to Auckland for appointments. And with such stunning surroundings, it’s a beautiful place to spend time while working! ☀️

Visits like these are always a meaningful part of what we do, helping us stay connected with the people and communities we support 💙
