Many of us naturally bottle‑feed using our preferred hand, which means their head often ends up resting on the same side every time. Over weeks this gentle weight of their head on your arm can contribute to flattening on one side. By simply switching sides during feeds, you help your little one build more symmetrical movement patterns and support a rounded head shape as they grow.

Early arrival, big milestones ahead!

We know most moderate to late preterm (32 -36 week old infants) enter this world following a similar journey to term born infants but often require a little more focused attention.

A top‑to‑toe developmental assessment with practical ideas can help guide their journey and help them keep ahead of the game.

Some children just don’t like water. And while hydration can’t be completely replaced, there are other ways to help keep them topped up in this hot weather. Hydration is vital for daily functioning and sport and for my constipated kids, it’s an absolute must.
Alongside encouraging regular sips, you can also boost hydration through water‑rich vegetables and fruits. Many veggies are naturally high in water like cucumber, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, and even carrots. These can be easy additions to lunchboxes or snacks and give kids a little extra hydration support throughout the day.

Kids need regular sips throughout the school day to keep their gut happy and things moving comfortably. But between friends, play, and busy classrooms, drinking water often slips their mind.
A simple trick that helps:
👉 Use a clear drink bottle with time‑markers so they can see their progress through the day.
👉 Encourage small sips at each break rather than “catching up” after school.
👉 Check their bottle when they get home — it’s an easy way to spot patterns.
Healthy hydration = happier tummies, better focus, and more comfortable poos.

Beautiful summary and reminder to look at therapy through this lens.

In-depth clinical reasoning honours the complexity of childhood neurodisability—and the reality that child development is a journey, not a snapshot. It helps therapists and families look beyond a child’s current function to explore what’s possible, not just what’s present.
Rather than comparing children to age-matched peers, we ask:
✨ What skills are emerging?
✨ What supports could unlock the next step?
✨ What potential lies just beneath the surface?
This kind of reasoning embraces the full picture—motor, sensory, communication, emotional, and environmental factors—and supports meaningful growth over time. It’s not about predicting limits. It’s about discovering pathways.
