Hosted by: Julie Teestov, the teacher of the SE™ training in Aotearoa New Zealand
In this presentation, you will be introduced to the foundations of the SE™ model and learn what makes it unique and powerful for working with event-related, developmental or systemic trauma. This presentation will provide a summary of pertinent trauma physiology for understanding the mind-body states and symptoms that result from chronic stress and trauma. You will learn how the “language of the body” can be incorporated with a client’s cognitive narrative to renegotiate trauma physiology. We will discuss cutting-edge research about how interoception and exteroception are involved in fear-based memory formation and extinction. During this 3-hour presentation, you will be invited to participate in several short experiential exercises to support the integration of your learning.
Julie Teetsov is a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and Faculty with Somatic Experiencing® International. She is a techniques-certified Craniosacral Therapist with the Upledger Institute, certified Somatic Movement Educator with the School of Body Mind Centering® and a Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning Experience (DARe®) Practitioner. In addition to teaching SE, Julie has a private practice in Auckland where she specialises in working with touch and movement with adult clients who have experienced early birth trauma and/or childhood medical trauma. For many years Julie worked as a touch and movement practitioner at a non-for-profit governmental agency offering mental health and wellbeing services for people from refugee backgrounds in Aotearoa where she experienced the power of human resilience and how people can connect across language and culture through the body.
