On Valentine’s Day at 7:20am, Adrian took part in the 22km Mid Monty Coastal Challenge, a run, walk and swim from Long Bay to Windsor Reserve.
Just six minutes into the event, at around 7:26am, Adrian took a solid blow to the left shin after swimming over a barnacle covered rock (see the photo for proof). After climbing up a two metre cliff and taking a moment to assess the damage, he decided he was good to keep going.
The first 7km of the course was mostly made up of rocks, water crossings, careful walking and trying not to slip, all while taking in some incredible coastal scenery. Adrian even spotted several small bays he never knew existed. By the 11km mark, after swimming across the rather smelly Milford Estuary, he was very grateful to be greeted with sliced blood oranges and sour cola lollies.
At around 17km the fatigue began to set in as the beaches stretched out longer and the path around the cliffs became more exposed with the dropping tide. By the time he reached 20km and hit Macky Ave, it felt a bit like climbing North Head, although thankfully it was downhill from there.
