North Piha Lifeguard Service has protected the lives of those who visit North Piha for over 50years. United North Piha Lifeguard Service was created in 1973 as the result of the amalgamation of North Piha Surf Club and Eastern United Surf Club from Browns Bay. Like most Surf Lifesaving Clubs throughout New Zealand United North Piha's beginnings were the result of a few determined genuinely caring citizens. The drive to Piha back in the 1940's until the 1970's was a dust chocked narrow metal road in summer and a slippery mud bath in winter. Those harty volunteers would often travel out on a Friday evening and patrol for the entire weekend. Todays volunteers whip over the hills in airconditioned cars in less than 30 minutes from Henderson. There was a great need for a club house. Local identity Les Waygood donated land, locals and members fund raised and lobied for materials to build the club house which still stands today but in a modified form.

Huge congratulations to Brianna Gleeson who has been selected as a candidate for the 2025–26 bp Leaders for Life programme - we couldn’t be prouder! ⚡️

Leaders for Life is Surf Life Saving NZ’s leadership development programme, designed to grow confident, community-minded leaders who are ready to step up both on and off the beach - and it’s a big deal to be selected!

Shout out to United guards Dan Short and Victoria Mulrennan who have also been selected as mentors for the programme, helping candidates like Brie through their leadership journey 💙💛

We’re stoked to see our United whānau representing at all levels of surf lifesaving 💪🏼

At United, all flags raised, and rescue made is thanks to volunteers. Our club runs entirely on donated time from patrols to trainings, from board meetings to the everyday mahi that keeps the club ticking.

This Volunteer Week, we want to thank all volunteers and shout out to every surf club around Aotearoa for the incredible work they do. We are stoked to be a part of this nationwide community ⚡️

To all of you who give your time, your energy, and your heart, this week is celebrating you 💙💛

United came together for our annual prizegiving and what a way to wrap the season! 💙💛

We had an incredible turnout of over 160 club members and whānau at the Te Pai Centre. It was awesome to see both junior surf and senior members celebrate another amazing season and acknowledge the mahi happening in every corner of our club.

A special shoutout to Tracy, winner of the Parsons Family Award for Most Volunteer Patrol Hours, for clocking an incredible 147 hours on patrol! What a huge effort and a true reflection of dedication to our club and community.

Congratulations to all our winners and here’s to another incredible season at United!⚡️

United was proud to take part in this year’s ANZAC Day Parade, hosted by the Piha RSA, standing together in a special setting for the service beneath Lion Rock.

A big thank you to Ollie and Charlie Gannon for representing United with pride as they laid the wreath on behalf of the club.

We honour the ANZAC spirit, and all those who continue to serve our nation and community.

We will remember them ❤️

IRB Nationals 2025 - Waipu Cove 🌊

United Airlines hit the water strong, making the most of prime conditions before the wind and chop set in. While the podium didn’t go our way, the team spirit and support were second to none.

Special mention to Natalie, Mackenzie and Chloe for an epic finals run in the Open Women’s Tube Rescue - huge effort! 💙💛

And that’s a wrap on the IRB competition season!

A massive shoutout to our team managers - you keep everything running smoothly, and we couldn’t do it without you. To our incredible support crew, always loud, proud, and repping the blue and gold. And a huge thank you to for always backing our racing efforts - we’re so grateful for your support.

Bring on next season! ⚡️

BIG NEWS: IRBs are out, jetpacks are in! After extensive testing, we’re launching our United Jetpack Rescue Squad.

Faster response times, epic aerial views, and a 50/50 chance of landing on the beach and not the dunes.

Who’s keen for a test flight?

United Airlines were on tour, venturing down country for the South Island IRB Champs! ✈️

With all three of our U23 Women’s crew—Lily, Olivia, and Ella—currently studying at Otago, they teamed up with Jackson from Mairangi Bay to take on the Waikouaiti surf.

A solid effort in challenging conditions saw the crew land:
💙 6th in Open Female Tube Rescue
💛 5th in Open Female Single Rescue
💙 6th in U23 Female Tube Rescue
💛 4th in U23 Assembly Rescue

A huge thanks to St Clair and Warrington for the support and boat loan!

Bring on Nationals at Waipū⚡

Club Day 2025⚡🌊

From juniors to seasoned guards and parents, everyone turned up the heat for our annual Club Day! — Sprinting in fins, diving into beach flags, and catching waves to earn the top spot!

The best part? The epic energy and support from our clubbies, proving once again that United is all about backing each other in and out of the water.

Massive thanks to Carwyn, Mary, Doug and their team of helpers for pulling together such an awesome day! 💙💛

United Airlines touched down in Whangamata this weekend for the Northern Region Champs 2025! ⚡️

Saturday served up a full day of racing with challenging conditions and some average weather, but our crews took flight and gave it their all ✈️

Unfortunately, day 2 was cancelled due to some wild weather, but that didn’t stop our team from making the most of the weekend.

A special shoutout to a few new racers who had their first taste of IRB competition — Proud of everyone who got out on the water and sent it! 🌊

A massive thank you to our supporters who made the trip, as well as our incredible coaches and managers for keeping the team running smoothly 💙💛
