Public consultation opened on proposals to strengthen Total Mobility
Ministers have announced public consultation on several proposals to strengthen the Total Mobility scheme. The Ministry of Transport is leading the public consultation. The proposals were developed with input from the Ministry of Disabled People – Whaikaha, Ministry of Social Development and the New Zealand Transport Authority.
You can find the Total Mobility discussion document and other materials on the Ministry of Transport website here: https://www.transport.govt.nz/consultations/proposals-to-strengthen-total-mobility.
Alternate formats of the discussion document have been commissioned, including Braille, Audio, Large Print, Easy Read, and New Zealand Sign Language. These will be published as soon as they are available.
How to give feedback:
We welcome and value your feedback on the proposals.
In the link above, you will find several ways that you can provide your feedback, including:
- an online survey. It already has audio and large print functionality enabled and Easy Read and New Zealand Sign Language will be added shortly
- a feedback form that can be downloaded and emailed or posted to the Ministry.
You can also register your interest to attend an online feedback session in early 2026 through the link above. The public consultation will run until 22 March 2026, and we look forward to receiving your feedback.
The Total Mobility scheme helps people with long-term impairments travel when they cannot use public transport on their own. It pays part of the cost for taxis and sometimes other transport, making it easier for users to meet daily needs and take part in their community.
