Last Tuesday, Nijaya spent the day with Shore Junction in Takapuna, Auckland for Open Doors Day. Nijaya stated "It went well, I installed the latest [updates] in all desktops [and laptops] to ensure they are running smoothly. Conin and Louis have shown me how to do these tasks to ensure the Shore Junction keeps running."

I.Lead's latest project, Open Doors Day, encourages businesses from across the motu to open their doors to a disabled employee for a day. Because it shouldn't be ODD to see disabled youth in employment!
This event allows I.Lead members the opportunity to enter an industry they are interested in, volunteering their time for a day.

With a focus on empowering both rangatahi whaikaha and businesses, Open your Doors Day (ODD) will be an annual initiative, proving that hiring disabled people does not have to be scary or odd. Keep an eye out for Open Doors Day 2027!

Last Tuesday, Jaden spent the day with Youthline in Auckland for Open Doors Day.

Jaden stated "Spending time at Youthline during Open Doors Day was a really eye-opening experience. It was powerful to see firsthand the care, intention, and depth of support that go into every interaction with young people. What stood out most was the genuine commitment to creating a space where young people feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. It reinforced just how important accessible, human-centred support systems are for young people across Aotearoa."

Introducing: I.Lead Showcase Days!

I.Lead Showcase Days are an opportunity to celebrate, connect, and grow our disabled youth-led movement across Aotearoa. These events are designed to introduce new members, partners, and supporters to I.Lead, while highlighting the impact, leadership, and advocacy driven by disabled young people in our communities.

Showcase Days provide a welcoming and accessible space to:
-Learn about I.Lead’s kaupapa, programmes, and regional committees
-Hear directly from disabled youth leaders about their experiences and impact
-Explore opportunities to get involved — as a member, volunteer, partner, or supporter
-Connect with like-minded young people, organisations, and decision-makers
Each Showcase Day reflects our commitment to youth leadership, inclusion, and collective action. Whether you’re a disabled young person wanting to build confidence and create change, or an organisation wanting to better engage with disabled youth, I.Lead Showcase Days are a place to start.
Come along, meet the community, and see what’s possible when disabled youth lead the way.

Our Showcase dates are:
Auckland – Thursday 14th May
Christchurch – Thursday 21st May
Blenheim – Monday 8th June
Whangārei – Monday 15th June
Dunedin – Friday 17th July
Tauranga – Wednesday 22nd July

Te Ara Tāne: The Path of Men

We’re creating a space where disabled men (18-30) can come together, be real, and have honest kōrero about the ups and downs of life — the stuff people don’t always talk about. Whether it’s about identity, relationships, mental health, or just everyday challenges, this is a space where you’ll be heard and understood.
This group was designed by disabled men, for disabled men — no pressure, no judgement, just a chance to connect, listen, and be yourself.

Come along. Your story matters. Your voice belongs here.

Our next meeting date is April 21st

Whangarei Accessible Housing Trust : Help them to help you

The Whangarei Accessible Housing Trust has been housing people aged under 65 with physical disabilities in affordable, accessible homes in Whangarei and Auckland for 20 years.

The Government is rolling out some funding to build new social housing and The Whangarei Accessible Housing Trust are applying. They need your help to gather current relevant data to provide as part of their application. This will assist them with gaining funding for accessible housing from the Far North through to Auckland.

They need information on:
· The areas they need to build more homes in;
· The size of the homes needed;
· The level of disability (which often removes other options for housing)

If you have a physical disability you can help The Whangarei Accessible Housing Trust build more homes by filling in this short survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z3CT285
