Great work, good food and a fantastic team that brings it all together.

That’s what we had at our Town Hall recently, a chance for our Central, North, and the new Christchurch team (albeit online) to come together. Barney, our CEO, shared some of our recent wins and gave us a look at what’s coming up next. There were plenty of treats and a good reminder of how lucky we are to be part of this team.

New Zealand, you did something amazing.

Thanks to everyone who took part in a recent flu vaccine study – you’ve made it possible for Optimal Clinical Trials to be the top recruiter in New Zealand and our Central site was the top recruiter in the world. We enrolled 577 people between our Central and North sites, that’s nearly 80% of New Zealand’s total. In a country of just over 5 million, that’s a big deal. It shows how much Kiwis care and how ready we are to step up when it matters.

This success is yours too, thanks for being part of it.

Today, we welcomed our first clinical trial participant to our new Christchurch site, and we’re excited to be up and running. Talking about her experience, our participant said, “It’s an opportunity to try a potential new treatment for my medical condition. Everyone at Optimal was so nice to me and the place looks really impressive!”. Thank you to our Christchurch participant and our study team for making this possible.

We’re currently looking for volunteers for studies on Type 2 Diabetes, Weight Loss, Coeliac Disease, and Migraine. If you're living with one of these conditions, you might be eligible to take part in a clinical trial and access potential new treatment options.

Our Christchurch team is here to make your experience comfortable, respectful, and supportive, and we’re always happy to answer any questions.

Why do people join clinical trials?

People from all walks of life, whether they are healthy or living with a medical condition, take part in studies for all sorts of reasons:

· Some are seeking access to potential new treatments
· Others hope to help someone they care about
· Many just want to do something good

Here’s a reason from one of our recent study participants.

Say hello to Dr Olu De Rozario, one of our Principal Investigators here at Optimal.

She’s been a lead investigator on several of our clinical trials, including Atopic Dermatitis and Non-Segmental Vitiligo trials.
Dr. Olu’s worked all over the North Island and brings both deep clinical experience and a real-world understanding of patient care to her research.

She puts it best:
“Clinical trials give me the chance to go beyond treating one patient. It’s about helping develop better treatments for everyone.”

We’re so glad to have people like Olu leading our research studies.

Help us evaluate an investigational 2-in-1 inhaler for adults with asthma.

Diagnosed asthmatics who have had at least one asthma attack in the last year may be eligible.

By volunteering for this study, volunteers will help researchers learn more about asthma and may aid in the development of an experimental asthma inhaler.

Migraine is tough to treat, what works for one person might not work for another. With limited access to newer treatments and no one-size-fits-all fix, the need for more research and better options is clear. Something we’re paying close attention to in our work as well.

Our fourth and final article from the Migraine in Aotearoa New Zealand survey looked at the use of supplements and complementary therapies for migraine prevention. There are lots of non-medication approaches that can help, like magnesium and vitamin B2 supplements, acupuncture, biofeedback, yoga and meditation. But it's a matter of trial and error to find out what might work for any individual, and cost and availability can be a barrier to trying these types of approaches.
