Just a shout out to the amazing Healthy Athletes Programme at the National Summer Games Special Olympics New Zealand. Over 120 volunteer health specialists check over the participants vision, hearing, dental care etc.
The games have come to an end for this year - with some amazing stories and achievements to be noted! Follow Special Olympics New Zealand or your own regional club to see updates!

Tennis NZ are offering a FREE Coaching Assistant course in Auckland (Feb 21–22), run with Blind Sport NZ with a focus on making tennis accessible for players with a vision impairment. Learn about rules, adaptations, and practical tips.

Coaches from all sports welcome; there are limited spots! Travel costs only.

Good luck to everyone competing in the 2025 National Summer Games in Christchurch!!

🎉 The countdown is on!

The Special Olympics National Summer Games 2025 kick off this week in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
From athletics and swimming, to bocce and tenpin bowling, more than 1200 athletes will take part supported by volunteers, friends and whānau.

BIG news! New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowls Association are hosting the Vision Impaired World Championships in Auckland, January 2027!
They are seeking managers, coaches, and selectors to support and lead the New Zealand Vision Impaired Bowls Team on home soil.

The New Zealand team is seeking the right people to help guide their team to and through this event.

Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand has scholarships available for their Youth Activate course (5–12 Jan 2026). An 8-day adventure for rangatahi aged 16–18 with a physical disability or impairment.

There are spots for the Adult Activate course too (3–10 Feb 2026), with full funding thanks to MSD support.

Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People Blind Low Vision NZ BLENNZ Parents of Vision Impaired - NZ I Lead Blindsided NZ - Vision Loss Support Page

Outward Bound have some scholarship funding available over summer on their Youth Activate course.

Youth Activate is an 8-day course for rangatahi aged 16 – 18 years old with a physical disability or impairment and the dates are 5th January – 12th January 2026.

The scholarships are valued at $3,510 and cover the full course fee for the programme. Here is some more info on the course:

Participants are responsible for the additional costs of transport to Picton for course start and the cost of a doctor’s appointment to get our medical form completed.

They also have some final places remaining on our Activate course between 3rd February – 10th February 2026. This programme is for adults with a physical disability or impairment (aged 18+).

Outward Bound is fortunate enough to receive support from MSD for this programme, and this funding supports participants with the full course fee, travel and a doctor’s appointment to get our medical form completed (adult Activate course only).

An awesome sports day at Homai BLENNZ campus, organized by the Transition Students for the students. Supported by CLM Community Sport, Special Olympics New Zealand, Hungerball and us! The students led , golf, boxfit, boccia, and athletics!

Finishing up with an epic visit by One NZ Warriors for league action! Memories and connections made for sure!
