Starting 2026 off with some inspiration! Paralympics New Zealand have shared a fascinating write up on Christopher Orr. Alongside his amazing story it is full of great reminders about adapting your approach, communicating what works for you, and knowing your sport.

We hope everyone had a great summer!

Paralympian #46 Christopher Orr made history as the first Kiwi to win a Paralympic Winter Games medal, achieving the feat at Innsbruck 1984.

We caught up with Chris to reflect on his success and his post-sporting life, where he continues to make a positive difference for those with a vision impairment.

Just a shout out to the amazing Healthy Athletes Programme at the National Summer Games Special Olympics New Zealand. Over 120 volunteer health specialists check over the participants vision, hearing, dental care etc.
The games have come to an end for this year - with some amazing stories and achievements to be noted! Follow Special Olympics New Zealand or your own regional club to see updates!

Tennis NZ are offering a FREE Coaching Assistant course in Auckland (Feb 21–22), run with Blind Sport NZ with a focus on making tennis accessible for players with a vision impairment. Learn about rules, adaptations, and practical tips.

Good luck to everyone competing in the 2025 National Summer Games in Christchurch!!

🎉 The countdown is on!

The Special Olympics National Summer Games 2025 kick off this week in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
From athletics and swimming, to bocce and tenpin bowling, more than 1200 athletes will take part supported by volunteers, friends and whānau.

Good luck to all the athletes - go out there and shine. Karawhiua! Go hard!
