Yoga is the perfect antidote for a body out of balance or a stressed mind. The practice of yoga creates an intimate connection between our physical bodies and our mental state, and therefore with ourselves. It helps us to manage the stresses and anxieties of our daily lives benefitting us and those around us. The studio is set in a light-filled, purpose-built studio at 56 Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn - minutes from the heart of Auckland. Our high stud, natural light, gorgeous bamboo floors and city views create an ideal environment for your practice. Don’t forget to lock in your yoga classes for the weekend!

We’re excited for this warmer, brighter weather. It’s been a right Winter of chills and ills hasn’t it, and some of you are only just emerging from your bouts of sickness. We know your body misses the asana, your lungs & mind miss the pranayama, and we’ve missed having you in the studio! But make sure you take it easy as you get back into your practice.

And please get yourself better before you do come back to class - for your own sake and for your neighbours on the mats around you too. 🙏

It’s 3 days into September and we haven’t done a Spring has Sprung post yet! Though we did say it in the enews. Did you get it?

So Spring is here! Yay. It’s been a long grey winter and it feels good to shake off the cloak of cold mornings and gloomy skies!

At Yoga Ground we like to bring that same feeling to our classes and the time we spend with you. We move together, breathe together, often laugh together, and hopefully feel a little lighter than when we all arrived.

Meet the Team: Kerry

Kerry has been guiding students through mindful, accessible yoga practices for over four years. Rooted in Hatha, her teaching weaves in mindfulness, body awareness, interoception, and the polyvagal approach.

With 500 hours of yoga teacher training, iRest® certification, a Diploma in Fitness, and training in trauma-informed yoga, Kerry offers compassionate and inclusive classes that support a wide range of needs—from studio settings to drug and alcohol rehabilitation programmes.

Her background in nutrition and natural health gives her a unique, holistic perspective on wellbeing that shines through in her teaching.

Outside the studio, Kerry works for a wholefood company and enjoys life’s simple pleasures like coffee in Grey Lynn and strolls with her Bengal cat!

MEET THE TEAM: NIKKI

Many of you will know lovely Nikki as she has been a leader in the yoga and wellness industry for many, many years.

Previously the owner of the Urban Ashram yoga studio for 9 years, she has been a featured teacher at numerous wellness festivals and events. She has been the yoga teacher to the NZ Warriors, the Blues and many other national sporting teams.

She has a very fun sense of humour and can often be found upside down - participating in one of her favourite activities of handstands - or lifting heavy weights in the gym.

MEET THE TEAM: LIANA

It’s a great day to introduce / reintroduce Liana! It’s her birthday today. 🎂 🎉 HBD Liana!

Liana is one of our longest standing teachers at Yoga Ground, she has been with us since 2013 - that’s 12 years!

She has primarily trained under reknown Yoga teacher Vincent Bolletta including his Hansa Flow training and 200hr Yoga Therapy course, as well as courses with Raphan Kebe and Jo Phee.

Liana is an accomplished dancer. She has been dancing since she was six years old.

Her style of Yoga teaching embodies the grace, discipline and strength that dance requires. Her classes are also playful. She has a cheeky sense of humour and is super down to earth. Which many of you know already and love.

CHAKRA YIN IS BACK!

For the next seven weeks Dani’s Wednesday night Yin class at 715pm will focus on the chakras (energy centres) in the body.

Tonight you’ll begin with muladhara - the root chakra. The postures and dialogue will focus on helping to balance this centre in the body.

You’ll move up the body attending to each of the seven main chakras over the seven weeks. Come to one, some, or all!

Just like Kara’s Chinese elements classes these are drop in classes, not a course and don’t need to be done in order. Just book in the normal way!

MEET THE TEAM: JESS

Along with being a Yoga teacher, Jess is also a qualified Multidimensional Energy Healer, Meditation Teacher, Holistic Health and Nutrition Coach, and a Massage Therapist. She has studied Chinese Medicine Acupressure, Breathwork, Sound Healing, Shamanic Journeying, Plant Medicine, and loves to keep learning.

She has spent years living and teaching Yoga in Spain, Bali, and Costa Rica.

Her training includes: Hot Yoga Auckland 200hr, Zuna Yoga 300hr, Yin Therapy 50hr and 500hr Ta**ra Yoga TT with Ta**ra Essence and MYT Yoga.

Do you have a special spot you like to practice at Yoga Ground?

For some of us this is a VERY important part of the ritual.

Are you a corner person? Back row? Near the door? Away from the heat pump? Right under the heat pump? Or one of those rare creatures who just love the front row.

We know our regulars’ habits and could actually do a map of where they like to go 🙂

Aside from my spot on the teachers mat, I (Kara) personally love to be in “fairy corner”, over the far side where the crystals make coloured lights when the sun shines just right. ✨

They say change and variation are good for us. But sometimes it’s the little things that make your day…like getting to class early to nab “YOUR” spot.

Join Dani Affleck at Yoga Ground starting this Monday for our Six‑Week Beginners Course - an introduction to yoga that welcomes all bodies and experiences.

Dani has been guiding yoga classes since 2016, weaving together her training in trauma‑informed yoga, mental‑health focused practices, and somatic awareness. Through her own life experiences, she brings deep compassion, curiosity, and accessibility to every class.

Her style emphasises the felt experience, steering away from performative yoga and inviting you into a practice that feels safe and accessible.
