We have seen some cases of Dengue fever in Waiheke people returning from popular holiday spots in the Pacific region and Thailand.

Health advice to travelers to the Pacific is to take precautions against mosquito bites, as dengue cases are surging in the region. Key measures include using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and staying in screened or netted accommodations.

If you're heading to the Pacific Islands, take extra care - dengue fever cases are soaring, with Samoa reporting over 2,000 cases since April.

New Zealand has seen a sharp rise in travellers returning with dengue, especially from Samoa. In Auckland alone, July saw 34 confirmed cases - up from just 5 last year.

Planning a trip? Protect yourself:
✅ Wear light-coloured, long-sleeve clothing
✅ Use insect repellent with DEET (check info.health.nz for details on appropriate strength as it depends on whether you're an adult or a child)
✅ Avoid swampy areas or standing water
✅ Sleep under mosquito nets or in screened rooms

Older adults and young children are especially at risk of severe illness. Stay safe and follow local health advice.

Good restorative sleep is so important for the whole body and mind.
While taking Melatonin can help reset sleep patterns there’s plenty you can do to help your own Melatonin production.
Sleep is very habitual and you can help increase your own Melatonin by some simple tips.
- Dim lights from early evening stimulates your own Melatonin.
- Reduce screen time at night as bright lights lower melatonin.
- Eating snacks at night can interfere with your sleep as your body is too busy digesting to concentrate on sleep.
- Exercising earlier in the day really helps sleep. Exercise also increases Serotonin levels which is the precursor for your body making your own Melatonin.
- Watch alcohol intake
Alcohol disrupts deep sleep and also disrupts hormone balance. Excess sugar intake also disrupts hormones and sleep.
Speak to our trained Pharmacists we have lots of tips and experience helping people get better sleep.
Melatonin does naturally decline with age and may help short term restore our own levels after a period of poor sleep.

Melatonin supplemental can be used short term as an aid.
It is going to be easier to get soon from the Pharmacy in small pack sizes.

It shouldn’t be used in children without professional advice as it may disrupt hormones and is naturally high in children.

Our little beam of light 💡 Janny shows us Winter Solstice the shortest day of the yearJune 21, 2025.
In terms of daylight, this day is 5 hours, 4 minutes shorter than the December solstice.
Days will get longer again from here.
