🚭 READY TO QUIT BEFORE WINTER HITS? 🌬️

If quitting smoking has been on your mind, this could be the moment to start.

As the weather cools down, coughs, colds, and chest infections become more common. Smoking can make it harder for your body to deal with these.

The good news is, you do not have to do it alone. Our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Our Smoking Cessation Support service makes it easier to get started, with personalised guidance, practical tools, and support to help you quit in a way that works for you.

Interested? Get in touch with our team to learn more.

Here’s to a healthier winter for you and your whānau.

🚀 HOW TO: BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY THIS WINTER ❄️

As the weather starts to cool, now’s a great time to give your immune system a little extra support. Healthy habits can help you stay well.

Here are a few simple changes that can make a big difference:

🥦 Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables
🚶 Stay active in a way that works for you (regular movement supports your overall health)
😴 Get enough sleep to help your body recover and recharge
🧼 Wash your hands regularly to reduce the spread of illness

A flu vaccination is also one of the easiest ways to protect yourself, your whānau and community this winter. Get in touch with reception if you’d like to book.

🌺 LEST WE FORGET 🌺

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who served our country and gave their lives for our freedom.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Ngā mihi māhana to all who serve, have served, and continue to serve.

🏥 A SPACE DESIGNED FOR THE BEACH HAVEN COMMUNITY 🫶

As we get closer to opening our new home at 366 Rangatira Road on 11 May, we wanted to share a little more about what this space will mean for our community.

This isn’t just a new medical centre. It’s a space designed to feel welcoming, connected, and reflective of Beach Haven itself.

Alongside our clinical rooms, a dedicated community space will be available to book. We’d love to see it used for things like health talks from complementary providers, small group sessions, or even local business meetings, creating more opportunities for connection beyond appointments.

We’re also bringing a bit of Beach Haven into every consult room, with local photography from around our coastline, walkways, and harbour featured throughout the space. Take a look below 👇

With just over two weeks to go, we’re excited about the position we’re in to support your health, both now and in our new space.

Dr Gurung, Dr Arcus, Dr Vrancken, Nurse Practitioner Katrina, Nurse Prescriber Geraldine, and Nurse Rebekah are all available to help with a wide range of health concerns, from general check-ups to ongoing conditions and women’s health.

If you’d like to book an appointment:

📞 Call us on (09) 483 6422 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday
💻 Book online anytime through ManageMyHealth

🌏 FEELING OVERWHELMED BY CLIMATE ANXIETY? 😵‍💫

Climate anxiety has become more common across Aotearoa, especially following recent events. For many people, it can feel heavy and hard to switch off.

If you’ve been feeling this way, you’re not alone, and there are ways to support your wellbeing.

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand encourages people experiencing anxiety to focus on small, meaningful actions that help them feel more grounded and in control. This might include spending time in nature, connecting with others, or taking simple steps that align with your values.

They also have a helpful guide to looking after your wellbeing online 👉 https://mentalhealth.org.nz/a-guide-to-looking-after-your-wellbeing-online

Remember, even small actions can make a meaningful difference over time.

🛡️ DON’T WAIT FOR SUPER-K 🦠

You may have seen reports about a new flu strain, “Super-K” (H3N2 Subclade K), heading towards NZ.

Health experts are watching it closely because of how easily it has spread overseas. A higher number of flu cases could mean a more challenging flu season this winter.

WHO IS MOST AT RISK?

People aged 65 and over are most at risk of serious illness from the flu.

Pregnant people, young children, and those with long-term health conditions are also more vulnerable.

HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?

Getting your flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those around you.

You can also help prevent the spread by staying home if you are unwell, washing your hands regularly, and covering coughs and sneezes.

REMINDER: The 2026 flu vaccine is now available at our practice. If you would like to book, please contact our team.

🔍 STRESS OR BURNOUT: KNOW THE DIFFERENCE 🧠

We all experience stress from time to time. It’s a normal response to busy days, deadlines, or unexpected challenges. For most people, this type of stress is short-term and improves once the situation passes.

Burnout is different.

Burnout builds up over time and doesn’t go away with rest alone. It can affect how you feel, think, and function day to day.

SIGNS OF BURNOUT MAY INCLUDE 👇

😞 Feeling emotionally drained or overwhelmed
🚫 Becoming detached from work or family life
📉 Loss of motivation or enjoyment in things you used to care about
😴 Ongoing fatigue, even after rest

If these feelings are sticking around or starting to affect your daily life, it’s important to talk to someone. Reaching out early can make a real difference.

You don’t have to manage it on your own. Support is available, and our team is always here to help.

🛡️ HAVE YOU BOOKED YOUR FLU VACCINE YET? 💉

Flu season is around the corner, and now’s the best time to prepare.

While it may be mild for some, the flu can lead to serious illness and hospitalisation, even in otherwise healthy people.

Those most at risk include:

👵 Older adults
The vaccine is funded for those 65+. It can also help reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack, and support independent living.

🫁 People with underlying health conditions
Including diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.

👶 Pēpi and children under 5
Even healthy tamariki can become very unwell with the flu.

🤰 Pregnant people and their pēpi
The vaccine is safe, recommended, and free during pregnancy. It helps protect both you and your baby in those early months.

If you haven’t had your flu vaccine yet, don’t wait.

Get in touch with our team today to book your appointment and help protect yourself and your whānau this winter.
