Lunge & Thoracic Rotation, a warm up & activation movement for all forms of exercise. This movement opens the anterior chain & targets part of the posterior chain too.

Working through two planes of movement, this exercise both mobilises multiple joints and encourages activation of muscles. Targets the quadriceps, hip flexors, gluteal muscles and mobilising the shoulders and spine (specifically the thoracic region).

💡Use this: Warming up for leg or back day, rugby or football training and games, and even going out for a run.

💭 How: Move dynamically through this exercise, lunging first & twisting whilst deep in the lunge. Repeat 10 times each side.

To all of our ladies out there 👉 This is your encouragement to train like WOMEN and not like MEN.

Women have completely different biology, physiology and hormonal constitutions to Men. This impacts load, impact and programming and should be deeply considered when designing your training schedule.

Our best and most important tip for you is to TRACK YOUR CYCLE 🔄 Track it, learn it & know it. So when any health professional (physiotherapist, dietitian, GP or MSK specialist) asks you about it, you have complete awareness of what is happening and how you are functioning.

Plus, if issues are present or when issues arise, this log / diary can be used to support and guide you towards recovery and performance.

Is your cycle irregular? Is it missing? Check in with a health professional today ~ either a GP or female focused physiotherapist or dietitian.

ATHLETE HIGHLIGHT 💡

We are very excited to announce our sponsored athletes, Shaunna and Edward. Both currently defending their New Zealand titles in the Oceanic Championships for Mens and Women’s singles, respectively, and Mixed Doubles.

We are wishing them all the best in their competition for the remainder of the week 💪🏸

“I have been playing Badminton for 13 years and am currently representing Badminton North Harbour and New Zealand. I have won several National and Oceania titles from the Junior to Senior level, including 6x reigning National Champion for Women’s Singles.

This week (13th 16th February) I’ll be looking to regain my Women’s Singles title (won in 2023) and try to win my first Mixed Doubles title at the Oceania Championships.”

I have been playing Badminton for 16 years and am currently representing Badminton North Harbour and New Zealand. Throughout my career, I have won numerous National and Oceania titles from the Junior to Senior level. Since my transition to the Senior level, I have focused only on Singles and Mixed Doubles.

A derivative from Functional Movement Screening where we have put our own spin on things. Movement can tell us alot about the human body and what may not be stabilizing properly, not activating or working well enough. We base alot of our treatment on injury prevention and incorporate movement screening into our assessments to identify any mechanics that need working on and may explain why you have sustained the injury in the first place. We then provide you with tonnes of knowledge and advice to get you moving better, we’ll help you with hands on treatment and take you through some easy to follow strengthening, mobility drills or other means of rehab/prehab by our physiotherapists.
