Training on different terrains is great for the body 🏃🏻‍♀️ But only if you prepare properly & train smart.

Our body performs the best when there’s no surprises or shocks to the system ~ meaning, ease into every surface and strength the areas that matter 💪

Check out our bite sized tips for each different terrain you can run on. All of them requiring slightly different focuses and muscle groups 👉 If you need individualised support, come visit one of our expert physiotherapists and podiatrists ✍️📲

Foam Rolling❓️When to use & how to use it.

We hate to break the bubble around foam rolling, but a few meta-analyses have concluded that foam rolling has no lasting effects. It does not break up scar tissue or break up adhesions. Technically, it also cannot “release fascia”.

Studies have found a minor benefit for flexibility and pain perception. As well as a positive effect for increasing range of motion when compared to no exercise, but there is no difference when compared to stretching.

So.... Should you foam roll?

💡If it helps you feel good, then keep going!

💡Our favourite way to use foam rollers is for your thoracic spine (not pictured).

💡Using a roller as a modality of support to increase your extension and rotation is quite beneficial.

💡 Lean back and roll over the roller whilst extending the spine. Keep your bottom on the ground & support your head, twist slowly from side to side and hold for 10 seconds each way.

Neck pain not only disrupts your workflow but is also likely caused by your work, creating a double-edged situation.

Neck pain is incredibly common in office workers, due to long periods of sedentary behaviour and the postures we place ourselves in.

Work postures lead to neck pain developing, and this then further exacerbates the pain when sitting at a desk. We know, we have seen it all before, and we have strategies in place to help you reduce the likelihood of this occurring and how to prevent it.

Our first tip: Move as regularly as you can by setting reminders both via alarms and scheduled calendar events.

⏳Every 20 minutes of movement is optimal, but build yourself up to that habit slowly.

Ready to swap the road for some scenic trails?

Trail running is fantastic for your body and mind, but can be a whole new challenge!

At Rehab Co, we’re here to help you start strong and stay injury-free.

Here are our top 4 essential tips for your first trail adventures:

1️⃣ Gear Up Right: Your Feet First!

Forget your road shoes! Invest in proper trail running shoes with good grip and support. They’ll make a huge difference on uneven terrain and help prevent slips and falls.

2️⃣ Build Trail-Ready Strength:

Trail running uses different muscles! Focus on strengthening your glutes, quads, and core. This will help you power up hills and control your descent, protecting your joints.

3️⃣ Fuel & Hydrate Smart:

Even short runs require fuel! Stay well-hydrated before, during, and after your run. For longer efforts, carry water and a small snack to keep your energy levels up.

4️⃣ Pace Yourself & Enjoy the Journey:

Your first few trail runs aren’t about speed. Take it easy, walk when you need to, and focus on how your body feels. Enjoy the scenery and the unique challenge of the trail! ☀️

What do we do when we’re injured? 🤕

We understand that it’s hard to rest & for all of our active friends out there, we know that when a physiotherapist tells you to rest… you want to run for the hills?

BUT, we are here to show you that for many injuries (it’s always good to check), there’s often a low impact form of exercise that you can continue to participate in during your injury recovery.

Check with your physio on which is the best choice for you and we would be glad to keep you moving 🏃🏻‍♀️💨

We understand seeing a physiotherapist may seem scary, whether it’s the feeling of the unknown or because you believe we will tell you to stop doing your favourite things.

But, trust us. We have most likely seen it before AND our main focus and goal is to keep you doing what you love. In most of these injuries, movement is key and can actually support healing.

Whether it is an ankle or shoulder injury, or something that doesn’t fit inside these areas 👉 We can help investigate, assess & provide the rehabilitation that works for you.

Omega-3: Brain + Body Fuel 🧠💪

Benefits: supports brain + heart health, reduces inflammation, protects against oxidative stress, and even aids tendon recovery.

Where to find it: oily fish, flax seeds, walnuts, or reliable supplements like fish oil or algae oil.

Did you know your brain is ~60% fat, with half of that made up of Omega-3s? 🧠 These healthy fats are essential for memory, mood, learning, and cognition.

If fish and nuts aren’t in your budget or diet, supplements can help keep your levels up. Whether you’re recovering from injury or boosting mental performance, Omega-3 is worth considering.

The Rehab Co.

Having a fun working environment is a must here at Rehab Co. Our like-minded team all have their own passions in health and fitness and therefore thrive off sharing valuable knowledge and advice to help ensure your recovery. We pride ourselves off staying current with the latest medical research to ensure you are receiving only the best and most relevant quality treatments.

Our clients are our drive, seeing them reach their goals is what motivates us to provide the best service we can every day. We are “people people” and we enjoy getting to know our clients, to understand the full picture and help guide our rehabilitation.

A proud day when we got our second mobile physiotherapy clinic on the road.

A derivative from Functional Movement Screening where we have put our own spin on things. Movement can tell us alot about the human body and what may not be stabilizing properly, not activating or working well enough. We base alot of our treatment on injury prevention and incorporate movement screening into our assessments to identify any mechanics that need working on and may explain why you have sustained the injury in the first place. We then provide you with tonnes of knowledge and advice to get you moving better, we’ll help you with hands on treatment and take you through some easy to follow strengthening, mobility drills or other means of rehab/prehab by our physiotherapists.
