The South Pacific Education Advanced Research (SPEAR) programme is a new initiative dedicated to the support of prospective and current Pacific doctoral students from all faculties and research institutes within The University of Auckland. SPEAR exists to help ensure Pacific students continue to have the support they need as they progress through their academic career, from an eager undergraduate

to the learned doctoral candidate completing their thesis. In 2011, The University of Auckland had 54 Pacific students enrolled in doctoral programmes across the faculties of Arts, Education, Medical and Health Science, Science, NICAI, Business and Economics and Engineering. Through SPEAR, we hope to establish a strong national and international network of Pacific doctoral candidates and provide them with resources and further networks to facilitate the connection between them.
