Today (19 May) is World IBD Day 💜

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can have a significant impact on daily life and bowel health—and it’s not always easy to talk about.

At Continence NZ, we support open conversations and access to the right information.

Today (19 May) is World Family Doctor Day 💙

Family doctors play a key role in supporting our health—including bladder and bowel concerns.

If you’ve been experiencing continence issues, your GP is a great place to start. These conversations can feel difficult, but they can make a real difference.

At Continence NZ, we thank GPs and primary care teams for the care and support they provide every day.

Today (15 May) is the International Day of Families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Families and whānau play an important role in supporting health and wellbeing—including when it comes to continence care.

Whether it’s offering practical help, emotional support, or simply being there, these contributions make a real difference.

At Continence NZ, we’re here to support both individuals and the people around them.

Today (12 May) is International Nurses Day 💙

Nurses play a vital role in supporting people with continence needs-providing care, guidance, and reassurance in what can often be sensitive and personal situations.

At Continence NZ, we recognise and thank nurses across Aotearoa for the compassion and expertise they bring to improving quality of life for so many.

Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Today we celebrate mums, mother figures, and caregivers for all the care and support they give every day.

Motherhood can bring many changes to the body—including pelvic health. In fact, around 1 in 3 women who have had a baby experience bladder leakage at some point.

It’s common—but that doesn’t mean you have to put up with it. Support, advice, and practical steps can make a real difference.

Today (5 May) we celebrate International Day of the Midwife 💙

Midwives provide vital care and support to women and whānau throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond – including guidance on pelvic health and recovery after childbirth.

At Continence NZ, we recognise the important role midwives play in early conversations about bladder and bowel health, helping set the foundation for long-term wellbeing.

Our Pregnancy Guide supports these conversations, with practical, easy-to-follow advice on bladder, bowel, and pelvic health during and after pregnancy.

It’s New Zealand Sign Language Week (4–10 May) 👋

NZSL is one of Aotearoa’s official languages and plays an important role in making communication more inclusive and accessible.

At Continence NZ, we know how important it is for people to feel understood and supported when talking about their health. This week is a great reminder to keep learning and creating spaces where everyone can communicate with confidence.

May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month 💙

At Continence NZ, we support people with all aspects of bladder health. Changes like urgency, frequency, or leakage are common and often manageable.

It’s still important to be aware of unusual or ongoing changes — such as blood in the urine or persistent discomfort — and to check in with your GP or other health professional if something doesn’t feel right.

Being informed is about knowing your body and getting the right support when you need it.

📅 Save the date: World Continence Week 2026

World Continence Week will run 15–21 June 2026, and we’re already looking forward to another week of raising awareness about bladder and bowel health across Aotearoa.

Each year, the week is about starting conversations, reducing stigma, and sharing helpful information and resources.
