💜 It’s World Menopause Day! (18 October)

This year’s theme is Lifestyle Medicine – all about how the way we eat, move, rest, and manage stress can make a big difference to how we feel through menopause. 🌿

Menopause can sometimes affect bladder and bowel health too – things like hormonal changes, pelvic floor strength, or tissue support.

But here’s the thing 👉 you’re not alone, and there are ways to support your continence and feel more confident every day – small changes can make a big difference 👇
✨ Pelvic floor support
✨ Healthy habits
✨ Talking with your GP or physio

Sometimes bladder or bowel leakage isn’t caused by the bladder or bowel itself. Instead, aspects of physical ability, cognition, or communication, among other things, can increase the chance of toileting accidents.

For example:
• Mobility: arthritis or stroke may affect how quickly or easily a person can get to and onto the toilet.
• Managing clothing: joint stiffness, muscle weakness, or rigidity can make it harder to undo buttons or pull down underwear.
• Communication: someone may not be able to express their need to use the toilet.

By understanding these factors, we can reduce stigma, create more supportive environments, and help people maintain dignity and independence. 💙

• World Stroke Day – 29 October (www.world-stroke.org/world-stroke-day-campaign)

As Blue September comes to a close, we’re joining the movement to raise awareness for prostate cancer and men’s health. 💙

Continence is an important part of wellbeing – and for men affected by prostate cancer, understanding pelvic floor health can make a real difference.
