✨ Meet Dr. Charini De Silva ✨

Dr. Charini De Silva joined Pasefika Family Health Group in February 2026 and is available to see patients at King Street Medical Centre, Queens Road Medical Centre, Weymouth Medical Centre, and Roscommon Medical Centre. 💙

“Hi everyone, my name is Charini De Silva. I joined Pasefika Family Health Group in February 2026. I have worked at Middlemore and Waikato Hospital as a junior doctor and decided to apply for the general practice training programme last year. This is my second year as a GP Registrar, and I am absolutely loving the GP community.

I was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in Aotearoa. I love animals, especially dogs, and have recently grew an interest in knitting. I am so excited to be a part of the Pasefika Family Health Group whānau and look forward to the new and exciting challenges in the future.”

Hearing Awareness Month

Hearing Awareness Month reminds us how important it is to look after our hearing. Protect your ears from loud noise, get regular hearing checks, and support those who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Healthy hearing helps us stay connected with our families, friends, and community.

If you’re concerned about your hearing, speak with your healthcare provider and book a hearing check today. Your hearing matters. 💙

Breast cancer screening saves lives — and early detection can make all the difference.

If you are aged 45–69, you may be eligible for free breast screening through BreastScreen Aotearoa. The appointment is quick, professional, and could give you peace of mind for you and your loved ones.

Our mothers, sisters, aunties and daughters are the heart of our families — let’s encourage one another to book and attend.

Simple ways to add more protein to your day:
✔️ Eggs for breakfast
✔️ Fish or lean meats for dinner
✔️ Beans or lentils added to mince
✔️ Nuts, yoghurt or dairy for snacks

Small healthy choices make a big difference over time. Let’s fuel our bodies the right way and keep our families strong and thriving here in Aotearoa 🇳🇿

Healthy Dinner Habits for the Aiga / Whanau!

Did you know the best time to eat dinner is between 5:30pm – 7:00pm?

Finishing your meal 2–3 hours before bedtime helps improve digestion, reduce bloating, and support better sleep.

After eating:
🚶 Take a light 10–15 minute walk
🪑 Sit upright and relax
💧 Drink some water
❌ Avoid going straight to bed

Small daily habits can make a big difference to your health.

Eat early. Move gently. Sleep well. 💙

💚 National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 💚

This week, we stand together to raise awareness, break stigma, and support those affected by eating disorders.

Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions — they can affect anyone, at any age, in any culture. Behind the silence, there may be someone struggling.

Let’s choose compassion over judgment.
Let’s check in on our loved ones.
Let’s remind our community that help is available and recovery is possible.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a health professional. You are not alone. 💚

To the ones who show up every day with patience, compassion and strength — thank you.

Your work does not go unnoticed.
Your sacrifice is valued.
Your compassion changes lives.
