We are excited to announce that Bays Skin Cancer Clinic is now Rothesay Bay Skin Cancer Clinic – to better reflect our location and ensure that our patients can find us more easily.

🔍 Will you ‘Get Spotted’ to celebrate Melanoma Awareness Week?

This year Melanoma New Zealand are asking people to ‘Get Spotted’ as a way of encouraging your family and friends to take care of their skin in the sun and to check their skin regularly for any changes. We dressed up in spots to support and encourage you to do the same!

🧐 This week is Melanoma Awareness Week and Melanoma New Zealand are asking Kiwis to ‘Get Spotted’ to help raise awareness of melanoma and prevent more deaths from skin cancer.
Did you know that New Zealand has the highest incidence of melanoma in the world?
More than 6,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma in New Zealand every year, and more people die from skin cancer than on our roads.
However, it’s not all bad news – the majority of skin cancers are preventable and if melanoma is recognised and treated early enough, it is almost always curable.
That’s why we want to ‘spot’ melanomas before they become an issue! If you’re over 50, regular skin checks are an important way to catch any skin cancers early – but even if you’re younger, make sure you’re checking your own skin regularly and book in to see us if anything changes.

👨‍⚕️ Removing skin cancers doesn’t have to be scary. If diagnosed early through a skin check, most skin cancers can be removed via a minor surgery, using local anaesthetic.

My priority is always gaining the best outcome for the patient, with the lowest risk. That’s why I always choose the best treatment for your specific needs, whether surgical or non-surgical. Most kinds of treatments can be completed in our clinic – sometimes in the same appointment.

☀️ Worried that your old sunbathing habits might be putting you at risk of skin cancer?

Having spent three and a half years training and working full time in skin cancer medicine in Newcastle, Australia, my hope is to help as many Kiwis as possible avoid the challenges and risks that come with skin cancers – something we all need to think about!

Many early lesions are not picked up by a patient or by their busy GP, who is trying to manage a multitude of other medical issues. Early detection gives you (and me) a far greater variety of options, from surgical to non-surgical treatments.
