Shout out to this lovely pair - a mother and son who came in to donate plasma together yesterday!🙌

What is particularly special is that they both help isolated communities in their every day life and have seen all sorts on their work travels! Heidi is a rural GP doctor who lives in Nelson and as whole blood is only offered in Nelson, it is super special she has already clocked up 4 plasma donations when she has been in Akl. She was unable to donate for years due to the mad cow restrictions, but once that got lifted, her family (including husband & daughter) all donated together in Christchurch - what a cool family!

John (son) always has his study book on hand whilst donating plasma, and now pops in when he is back in NZ as now teaches linguistics in Fiji.

Good on you both, thank you for seeing us & we're looking forward to hearing more adventure stories!!

A special shout out to these incredible lifesavers from the Tegel team who came in from head office to donate last week!

Wonderful Fiona takes the lead on getting her team in to donate often and has done very well over the years with nearly both shuttles full last week. We want to thank this amazing bunch for the kindness in taking time out of their busy workday to donate & celebrating lovely Erika donating plasma for the first time!🏆

So, just like Tegel - you're welcome to make donating social by coming in together (if you're keen please feel free to DM us or leave a comment), or if donating is your 'me time' then this is awesome too!

“I donate plasma to show my appreciation for the good quality of life Aotearoa has offered my family.”

Meet Jeff – he celebrated his 100th plasma donation at our Epsom Donor Centre last Saturday, joined by his family.

They immigrated to New Zealand from Thailand eight years ago, and donating plasma has become one of the ways they give back to the country that welcomed them.

“I encourage my kids to donate plasma alongside me as I teach and remind them of the good quality of life Aotearoa is able to offer them, such as good education and career opportunities, which allowed my son to become a Geotechnical Engineer and my daughter to work towards becoming a pharmacist.”

Jeff says that as well as being a way to say thank you and give back to the community, he knows about the great benefits donating plasma can offer to those suffering from health issues like cancer and blood clotting disorders.

“Donating only takes an hour of my day, but it can have a significant impact on communities that require plasma as part of their treatment, which can be lifesaving.

“My life goal is to reach 300 donations in 10 years. 200 more to go!”

Meet Christine – our amazing plasma donor!⭐

Christine takes the long drive from Pokeno to Epsom frequently to donate plasma! She keeps coming back because she “loves the way I’m treated here” and donating gives her time out from her busy life between her animals, grandkids and working at a school. She started donating before she had kids, and recently got her lovely friend in to donate too!

You’ve got a heart of gold, Christine and we always look forward to seeing you💛 Thank you for being part of our family, making the journey to our centre often & congratulations on 45 donations today!

We also recognise and thank all our donors battling traffic coming from far and wide to donate at of our centres and mobiles, you're awesome!

Shout out to our legendary platelet donor, Brett, who recently reached his 350th donation!🎉An incredible milestone reached by our incredible donor👏

Brett makes regular stops every second Friday to come see us and we love catching up with him - you will find him busy reading his books whilst donating. He first saw us in the 1980s and the rest is history. Brett has now done 296 platelet donations, starting off by doing matched platelets and has also done granulocytes, an extra special type of donation.

What a special man with a big heart - thank you Brett! We loved celebrating you, your continual dedication means a lot to us🩸

Congrats Jacque on your 90th donation today!! 🏆

Lovely Jacque has been a regular donor since the 1970s and was inspired to donate because she (like her mother) has a very rare blood type AB-. Less than 1% of donors have this special blood type, meaning she gets called in specifically to help test everything is working properly in the labs, so without her donation, no donations can be processed. Her donations in the past have also been made into eye serums - how cool!

Jacque's reason for coming in so often is it's a “little thing one person can do.” She was a vet nurse and a zookeeper, so knows the importance of blood, seeing blood transfusions also happen in animals.

You are one very special whole blood donor Jacque! Thank you for making a regular stop to see us, especially as most your donations have been whole blood, this is an insanely incredible milestone!! 💜

Today, we met a group of friends who came in to donate blood together! 👏 Jus (left), Sorcha (middle) and Aleks (right) were inspired to come in after watching the movie ‘Iron Lung’, which has teamed up with blood donation centres in America to encourage more people to donate, how cool! It was special being Jus’ 6th donation, Aleks’ 2nd & Sorcha’s very first time coming in to donate🎉

Thanks to this awesome trio for coming in before uni starts up again, we loved meeting you guys & see you again in 3 months!

A special shout out to the lads at Awanui Labs for taking the time to come in and donate at Epsom together yesterday!! Ross is our regular platelet donor with 139 donations and convinced his fellow workmates (Mousheen, Abdul, Tairea & Haymish) to come along, and for some – this was their very first donation (it is never too late to start!).

What champions, it was a pleasure to meet you all🏆

Introducing the lovely Barnao family!

The Epsom Donor Centre was lucky enough to have a family join us and donate plasma together – Victoria & Sarah (who are sisters) and Sarah’s son, Flynn. Together they have reached 25 donations, an amazing effort by the trio!💜

The Barnao's are an incredible family who brighten up the donor centre, not only by donating, but Victoria is used to helping save lives every day in her line of work. She is currently a school nurse, but has worked at National Women’s Hospital and Auckland City Hospital at the neonatal intensive care unit, where she spoke of the value of blood products helping save the lives of many babies over the years, including her own. Victoria had an ectopic pregnancy in the year 2000, where she required an emergency lifesaving surgery and received a blood transfusion, so blood products saved her life too.

The special part of what we do is getting to know our donors and hearing touching stories as to why people donate. Thank you to the Barnao’s, you have made our day & we look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks! 😊
