1st Nominee: Daniel Reurich
At 51 years old, I have a diverse background, initially training as a Mechanical Engineer and working in various capacities from fitter-turner to fitter-welder across numerous small engineering shops. Later, I transitioned into IT and currently lead Centurion Computer Technology, a company specializing in Linux and Open Source Software.
I served on the council of the New Zealand Open Source Society for 14 years, including the last five as treasurer.
As a shareholder of NZ Refinery since 2017, I have been a vocal opponent of the refinery’s shutdown, actively campaigning to increase shareholder engagement to prevent its closure. Known for my problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, I have been the driving force behind numerous projects and initiatives.
2nd Nominee: Karl Barkley
I am Karl Barkley, a 66-year-old Engineer, Boilermaker, and Farmer, deeply aware of the strategic importance of maintaining New Zealand's own high-quality oil refinery at Marsden Point, Whangarei. This facility, which supported 40% of New Zealand’s fuel needs and produced significant quantities of JET A1 fuel and high-quality bitumen, was crucial for our national fuel security. Built in 1962, the refinery’s operational cessation has significantly impacted our independence in fuel production.
Together with Daniel Reurich, I advocate for significant board changes to restore and operationalise our national refinery. I am voting YES on Resolutions 1, 5, 6, and 7, and NO on Resolutions 2, 3, and 4, encouraging all shareholders to join us in voting for a Board that supports a fully functional refinery.
