Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a distinguished delegation from Hangzhou, China, led by Mr Zheng Ying, Deputy Director of the Hangzhou Civil Affairs Bureau. The group included senior representatives from local civil affairs bureaus and the Hangzhou Third Social Welfare Institute, one of the city’s largest providers of aged care and social welfare services, akin to our Ministry of Social Development.

Their visit to St Andrew’s Village was part of an international exchange to observe best practice in aged care here in New Zealand. We were proud to showcase our care facilities and share insights into our approach to elderly care, community-based services, disability support, and workforce development within the sector.

It was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and build bridges across cultures, all in support of improving the lives of older people around the world.

We extend our thanks to Christine from Kalandra for making this happen and to our guests for their interest and engagement, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.

What a perfect day for the official opening of our Care Suites Garden.
Under glorious blue skies, our community gathered to celebrate this stunning new outdoor sanctuary. Board Trustee Peter Goodfellow officially opened the space with a ribbon cutting ceremony, while CEO Cheyne Chalmers delivered an inspiring speech about this exciting milestone for our village.
We were delighted to hear insights from Shane Wiles and the brilliant team at WilesRead who brought this incredible vision to life with gorgeous palm trees, native plantings, and modern outdoor spaces that flow seamlessly from our care suites. Special thanks to Savory Construction for their exceptional construction work, and to Waterworx for creating the beautiful fountain feature. We're also incredibly grateful to our dedicated garden team who worked tirelessly with the planting, cleaning, and preparing everything perfectly for today's celebration. Stuart from our pastoral care team offered a beautiful blessing, making the ceremony even more meaningful.
This garden isn't just beautiful landscaping - it's a space designed for connection, reflection, and wellbeing that will enrich the lives of our residents, families, and staff for years to come.

Today marks International Aged Care Employee Day - a special day to honour the incredible people who dedicate their lives to caring for our residents.

At St Andrew's Village, we are so fortunate to have an amazing team who make such a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents every single day. Our aged care team goes above and beyond, providing not just medical care, but companionship, dignity, and joy to everyone in our care.

🔴 RED NOSE DAY SUCCESS🔴
What an incredible day we had yesterday at St Andrew's Village! Our Care Centre Courtyard was buzzing with excitement, laughter, and the amazing spirit of our community coming together for Red Nose Day.
From delicious homemade treats and live music by Rod, to our fantastic raffle prizes and everyone getting into the red theme - it was a day to remember!
We're absolutely thrilled to announce that together we raised $2,217.30 for Cure Kids! 🎉
A massive thank you to all our residents, staff, families, and volunteers who made this possible. Your generosity and participation made all the difference for children and families across Aotearoa.

Yesterday, our residents experienced something truly special - an "Armchair Journey to Hawaii" brought to us by Air New Zealand. Fifty of our residents gathered in the Care Centre Activity Hall for this exclusive inflight experience that transported them to the beautiful Hawaiian islands without ever leaving the village.

Air New Zealand's innovative approach allowed our community to enjoy their world-renowned service and hospitality in an immersive experience complete with authentic airline elements, beautiful Hawaiian scenery, and an engaging quiz that added to the adventure. The excitement and joy on our residents' faces as they "traveled" to this tropical paradise was truly heartwarming to witness.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Air New Zealand for bringing this extraordinary experience directly to our village. Their commitment to creating memorable moments for our residents demonstrates the wonderful community partnerships that make such special events possible. Thank you, Air New Zealand, for helping us bring the world a little closer to home and creating lasting memories for our residents.
