I did a course on jaw pain and sinuses a couple of years ago, which taught me techniques that involved working internally in the mouth to relieve tension in the jaw and help with sinus drainage. I have been using those techniques A LOT in the clinic since then and have had huge success with my patients! I just thought I would share a few of the things I've been able to treat:

- Jaw pain after biting down on something hard
- Clicking of the jaw since adolescence (patient was in her 40s when I treated her and the clicking resolved after one session)
- Tension around the jaw following orthodontic work
- Sinus drainage in someone with ongoing sinus issues
- A blocked ear and congestion on one side of the face
- General tension around the jaw that was contributing to headaches and neck pain (this is the most common, people aren't always even aware that the jaw is such a contributing factor!)

As always, osteopathy is so amazing to me in regards to what we are actually able to help with, so don't put off those aches and pains any longer than necessary!

I've been seeing a few patients in the clinic battling headaches recently, so I thought I would create a blog post with a little more information about what headaches are and some things you can do to try and alleviate them.

https://www.longbayosteopaths.co.nz/blog/headaches

And if you do suffer from headaches, it's worth booking in to see me, because it's not something you should have to just put up with when there's so much I can do to help!

CASE STUDY

I recently had a patient who had been suffering from a really blocked ear after being sick with a cold. The cold was pretty mild and she recovered quickly, but she was left with a lingering blocked ear that just wouldn’t clear. She even went to the audiologist to get her ear cleaned but they told her there was hardly any wax, and that it was probably just blocked in her middle ear. She was recommended a steroid nasal spray to try and clear it, although it wasn’t guaranteed to work.

She got in touch with me and asked if there was anything I could do to help, and I said “sure, let’s have a look!”. What I found was a lot of tension around her jaw and neck on the affected side, and restrictions in her upper neck. My treatment consisted of internal TMJ (jaw) release, and mobilisation of the neck (she didn’t want me to click her neck, which is absolutely fine, there are a lot of other techniques I can use to improve the movement in the neck). Already by the end of the session she felt a lot looser and felt like the ear was improving, and then she messaged the next day to say that it suddenly popped and was completely back to normal.

It’s stories like this that reminds me why I love what I do!

Gosh it's been an absolute minute since I have posted here. I've just been head down, in the grind. Thank you to everyone who has supported the clinic over the last 6 months, I am still so grateful that I get to do what I do, and do it from home 🥰

A little update, both kids are now well settled in at Kindy and absolutely thriving 🥳 which has allowed me to open up a few more time slots. I am now working Wednesdays and Fridays until midday, as well as my usual Saturday morning appointment times, so if you have been waiting, there are now more appointments available during the week.

I have also decided that now that I have more time, I am offering 1-on-1 exercise programming. I have been working with a couple of people already and seeing really awesome results in terms of getting them out of the rut of constant discomfort, and helping them feel more confident with exercise and training. This is something I feel so passionate about and have been wanting to do for awhile, so it feels awesome to be able to actually start implementing it!

What it looks like for you:
- Weekly personalised 1-on-1 45 minute in person sessions, targeting areas that you need to work on
- Movement and exercise education, making sure that you are doing things correctly and we are building a strong foundation to move forward with pain free activity
- Support throughout the rest of the week as needed.

Let me know if this sounds like something you would be interested in!

Hope everyone is staying dry today, thanks for reading my essay 😆

Hi everyone,

I'm super excited to announce that Malayka Yoseph Health Coach is joining Long Bay Osteopaths as of next week! Malayka is super passionate about health and wellbeing, and is wanting to impart some of her knowledge onto you, to help you through your own journey towards better living.

You may be wondering what a health coach is exactly? I'll let Malayka explain that a little better for you!

"Fair question as it’s a relatively new healthcare profession. You’ve heard the saying, Give a person a fish and they’ll eat for a day, teach them to fish and they'll eat for a lifetime. I’m essentially trained to help you uncover your health goals and make long-lasting changes to your well-being – so that you get to feel awesome all the time, and your doctor has to see less of you! Win/ win, right?"

Gentle reminder that eating well doesn't have to be complicated (or aesthetically pleasing!). This was a super simple lunch I threw together in about 10mins.

- preboiled potatoes and Kumara (I did this earlier this morning but leftovers from the night prior works as well)
- frozen peas and beans
- fresh tomato and corriander

I fried it all together in olive oil and garlic, then added salt and a little bit of chilli to mine because everything on my plate needs chilli 😜 perfect for me and for the 1 year old.

Unfortunately today I am writing to send a farewell to Eve, who has been with us for the last year, but is moving to another clinic that is more compatible for herself and her family. We want to wish Eve all the best on her new venture and give a massive thanks for all the hard work she has done over the last year!

Unfortunately this means that there will not be as many free appointments available, but I am now open for bookings on a Wednesday morning, as well as my usual Saturday mornings. I am also still available for appointments outside of those times for emergencies, so do feel free to get in touch if those times don't work for you.

Take care everyone and I will see you around!

I'm back! Freddie is about to turn 7 months (where has the time gone?!) and is absolutely thriving, the clinic has recently just turned 2, and while I've been slowly dipping my toes in the water, it's time I update everyone that I have actually returned to work. I currently have some slots open on a Saturday morning, and have limited availability mid-week for those that want to get in touch via text or email.
Eve is also still with me here on a Tuesday and Thursday and available for online booking.
I can't wait to see everyone and catch up! 😁
