You’re invited to take part in a short, anonymous survey exploring how physiotherapists in Aotearoa New Zealand are currently supporting people with concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

We’re sharing this on behalf of Sharon Olsen, Senior Lecturer at AUT, and Daniel Lambert (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairoa), an AUT Honours student in Physiotherapy.

Who can take part?
NZ-registered physiotherapists who have treated 5+ concussion patients in the past year.

Why it matters:
Help us understand how concussion rehab is being delivered across different clinical settings - your insights will help shape future practice.

Wanna build muscle? Make it a priority!

Muscle gain isn’t about fancy supplements or smashing a protein shake the second you rack your last rep. It’s about doing the basics well and consistently.

Muscle Gain Pyramid
Training hard with progressive overload is #1. Then, eat enough, hit your protein, choose decent kai, and worry about supps and timing afterwards.

Protein Priorities
Your body doesn’t care if you get 30g of protein in right after training if you’re under-eating all day. Focus on your total intake, spread it across 3-4 solid meals, choose quality sources, and then think about timing.

The Hard-Gainer Starter Pack
AKA: What not to do if you actually want to grow?
• Sleep in ‘til midday
• Skip breakfast
• Live on pies, lollies, and preworkout
• Own every supplement under the sun
• Train without a clue or a plan

Physio Strength Coach Daniel’s first powerlifting comp, he was lucky enough to meet two legends - Tina Ball and David Liti.

Tina, founder and Head Coach of Strength HQ Weightlifting Club, has produced countless national and international champions, NZ records, and medal winners on the world stage. She’s one of NZ’s few Senior International Coaches and the only female High Performance Olympic Weightlifting Coach.

And beside her is David Liti, 105+kg Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

Was great to meet them both!

A letter to my 35-year-old self

Dear Liezel,

You might not know what’s coming, but it’s time to be aware. This isn’t to frighten you; it’s to empower you. The changes aren’t waiting for “someday”—they’re already happening.

If I could share one important thing, it would be this: Start learning now. Understand your hormones, your risks, and your options.

That’s why I’m diving into learning about the human body—to understand what’s happening and why some things within me are changing. Feeling anxious about this is normal, so I’m getting myself ready for it.

I can’t wait to teach others what I’ve learned so they can be prepared and aware of this journey. This knowledge will shape how they age and how they live.
