It is Wills week this week in New Zealand
Research indicates that half of New Zealand adults don’t have a will, likely because conversations about death are often avoided. There’s also a lot of confusion about what creating a will entails.
Anyone aged 18 or over with assets worth $15,000 or more should have a will. Since the average KiwiSaver balance is around $28,000, most New Zealanders meet this threshold. Without a will, your assets will be distributed based on legal rules, not your personal preferences.
Our advice? Don’t delay. If you’ve been thinking about writing a will, now is the time to do it.

Not all funerals have to be solemn affairs. One of the families we cared for decided to do things their way by ditching the usual sandwiches and savouries after the service and we hired a Mr. Whippy truck instead. It was a sweet tribute to their Nana, who never passed up an excuse to treat the grandkids to ice cream. That one simple choice brought comfort and many smiles, exactly how she would have wanted to be remembered.
