🔥 Burned yourself cooking? Act fast. 🔥

Whether you burned yourself grabbing a hot pan or with boiling water, you run the risk of scarring and other complications, such as skin infections and pain. A burn causes damage that results in the death of skin cells. It is important to provide prompt and efficient burn treatment.

Burns need to be dressed properly after being immediately cooled under tepid running water for 20 minutes. Depending on the location, mechanism, and size of the burn, you may want to have this checked by a medical professional.

Autism is a difference, not a disability.

Autism is a spectrum condition characterised by a wide range of symptoms that affect people differently, including:

- different communication styles
- can find social interactions challenging
- engage in repetitive behaviours
- can be obsessive in their interests

It is a complex neurobehavioural condition but there are ways we can support whānau with Autism.

With pride comes strength. Autistic Pride Day recognizes the importance of pride for autistic people and its role in bringing positive life changes. Recognise and embrace the qualities of autistic people and celebrate them for who they are. Actively participate in providing them equal opportunities to grow and make a mark in society.

Every day, approximately 83 New Zealanders need life-saving blood or plasma. Cancer patients, bone surgery patients, pregnant women, babies and accident victims need blood transfusions to save their lives. Unfortunately, less than 3% of the people in New Zealand are blood donors.

Could 24/7 services return to East Care?

Our Clinical Director Dr Peter Woodward is hopeful about what the Government’s announcement means for East Auckland.

“People come to urgent care because they can’t get into their doctors, or it’s an emergency after hours, or they go to the hospital and there are such big waits” - Dr Woodward.

“With a lack of funding and higher acuity coming through, we had to close because it wasn’t safe to stay open overnight” but if this funding extends to Eastcare we hope to be able to return to providing 24/7 urgent care.

Five new 24-hour urgent care services, new and extended daytime services, and rural and remote services for more than 70 locations are to be delivered over the next four years.

A great step forward for urgent care in New Zealand! 👏

The Government has just announced $164million of new funding to support after-hours and urgent healthcare services across New Zealand—and we’re hopeful this could help us bring back 24/7 urgent care to East Care Urgent Care.

At East Care, we know how important round-the-clock access is for our community. For 23 years, we provided overnight urgent care before having to windup that service in 2020. That was a tough call—and the need never disappeared.

Now, with a major upgrade of our facilities already underway and strong community support behind us, we’re in a position to bring those services back if the right financial support is secured.

This announcement gives us real reason to be optimistic.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Health Minister Simeon Brown are making a pre-Budget health announcement in Auckland.

Confirmed Measles Cases in Auckland

Measles is highly contagious and can lead to serious complications. If you think you might have it, don’t wait—seek medical advice right away.

Come to East Care or contact your GP if you:

✅ Have symptoms and aren't sure if you’ve been vaccinated
✅ Were in close contact with someone who has measles and aren’t vaccinated
✅ Are experiencing severe symptoms (like chest pain or difficulty breathing)
✅ Are pregnant and may have been exposed

Important: If you suspect you have measles, call us before coming into the clinic. This helps protect others and allows us to take the right precautions.
