As flu season approaches, we warmly invite you to visit our clinic for your annual flu vaccination. Walk-ins and booked appointments available. Getting vaccinated is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself from the flu, and to help safeguard your family, colleagues, and more vulnerable members of our community.

We’d like to take a moment to spotlight a general practice who has delivered an innovative approach to improving cervical and HPV screening rates for their community – Henderson Medical Centre!

The practice recently ran a 12-hour, nurse-led cervical screening clinic. Running from 8am to 8pm, it directly addressed key reasons for patients not being able to get checked – work, childcare demands, costs, and the overall difficulty of attending during standard 9-5 hours – and included direct outreach to Māori and Pacific women to encourage attendance.

The clinic offered a flexible, comfortable and stigma free opportunity for women to put their health first. The Henderson Medical nurse team saw a great turnout, screening several women including one attendee who had never been screened before. The team also followed up on general health checks and answered questions. Attendees had only positive feedback, noting that the after-hours opportunity was the first time they’d been able to get their health checked without stress or time pressure.

Congratulations to Henderson Medical for their thoughtful and well-planned approach! The team is already looking into next steps on how they can continue to boost cervical screening rates.

🚨𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 – 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗜𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰🚨

We would like to inform you that from Monday 9th March, our walk-in clinic service will be discontinued. All consultations will take place by booked appointment only.

This decision has been made following a sustained reduction in demand for walk-in appointments, ongoing staffing pressures, and an increasing number of patients attending with concerns that fall outside the walk-in criteria.

Returning to an appointment-based system will allow us to plan and deliver our services more effectively. It will help ensure a safer, more efficient experience for all patients, while also supporting better continuity of care.

Scheduled appointments enable us to maintain appropriate staffing levels, improve patient flow, and reduce overcrowding in waiting areas. They also provide our healthcare professionals with dedicated time to review medical histories in advance, allowing for more personalised and focused care.

We will continue to monitor demand and may review this arrangement during the winter months if required.

Welcome to Henderson Medical Centre (HMC). We are a large medical centre situated in the heart of Henderson with a dedicated group of GP’s and Nurses ready to assist you with your healthcare needs. HMC originally worked out of premises in Glendene, but quickly outgrew there and moved into purpose-built premises on the corner of Montel Ave and Great North Road, Henderson. Our grand opening occurred on 12th September 2001 and from there we have extended to include two theatres down the back where we perform minor surgeries such as skin excisions, circumcisions, PRP, toe-nail re-sections and more. The business is currently owned by Dr Anthony Hawes who is extremely passionate about delivering quality healthcare and continuity of care whilst providing a warm and supportive environment to the West Auckland community.

For your convenience, we are open 6 days a week with 4 late nights until 8pm and Sat until 1pm. We also have an online portal available for registered patients where you can book your appointments online anytime, order repeat prescriptions and view your test results.
