I graduated from the AUT Counselling Psychology program in 2014, since then I have been working independently as a Counselling Psychologist in various roles, including Mindfulness education, group facilitation, and private practice work. My background before Psychology was a varied and colourful one- I initially studied drawing and painting at art school back home in Scotland, before deciding in 2003 to come out to New Zealand and do my big O.E. As soon as my eyes set sight on this stunningly beautiful country, I knew I was going to be staying for a lot longer than first planned! I started my path here first in the hospitality field, this is where I spent most of my 20โs, before deciding to have a total career change and to go and work in a bank. One year later I had my big breakdown/breakthrough, and that was the moment when I decided to follow my heatโs true desire to study Psychology. During my studies of Psychology, I worked in an amazing retail job with a great bunch of people who really supported my path. The photo below is from the shop that I worked in. Sometimes I still help out there from time to time, or go back and visit them. That job and those people were the roots which kept me strong for many years, for that I am blessed and grateful. They helped me to walk my path with heart...
โAnything is one of a million paths. Therefore you must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if you feel you should not follow it, you must not stay with it under any conditions. To have such clarity you must lead a disciplined life. Only then will you know that any path is only a path and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you to do. But your decision to keep on the path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition. I warn you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. This question is... Does this path have a heart?โ - Carlos Castaneda
