From Rangatahi to Leader!
Te Aorangi started as a participant in our ATAWHAI programme and is now our Rangatahi Engagement Officer and a Mauri Tau facilitator.
She’s a powerful example of what happens when Rangatahi lead — paving the way for others through the Tuku Model. This is what leadership looks like🙌🏼

Dream team! We wouldn’t be able to do this mahi without them. We’re incredibly grateful to have this group walking alongside our rangatahi🙌🏼

This International Women’s Day, we honour the resilience, wisdom, and mana of the wāhine in our team. Their advice? Trust yourself, embrace your magic, and don’t be afraid to fail, your intuition will guide you. Be kind to yourself, because self-compassion ripples outwards. Lift others up with grace, and always remember: it’s not your job to be liked, it’s your job to love yourself.
What’s one piece of advice you’d share with young wāhine? Drop it in the comments! 💬✨

Last year we had a fundraiser campaign and so many of you gave a koha. We just wanted to take the time and say a big mihi to you all who did koha, no matter how big or small, it meant something to us, and we will be forever grateful for that 🫶🏽

The Kindness Institute dreams of a world where everyone has the tools they need to manage stress and transform their own lives. We support rangatahi to overcome anxiety, fear and stress, and to integrate Mindfulness in a busy life.
ATAWHAI
Our core mahi is supporting rangatahi to deal with stressful emotions, anxiety and low self efficacy. We work with rangatahi in mainstream school, youth who've been excluded from school and youth justice. Rangatahi learn to deal with challenging emotions, conflicts and to improve their forgiveness, honest communication, empathy, focus, motivation, positive decision making and positive relationship skills. 100% of rangatahi from our core program ATAWHAI report a reduction in stress.
Our ATAWHAI program works with marginalised Auckland youth aged 13-18 with low self-efficacy but lots of potential. It runs over 12 months and supports our youth holistically (Te Whare Tapa Wha framework) through intensive week-long wananga, ongoing mentoring and stress management coaching.
This program was developed with support from international & local research, youth and cultural advisors, educators and psychologists to ensure that we are catering to the unique cultural needs of our young people. The kaupapa is built on 5 principles: non judgement, vulnerability, self-compassion, fun and support. These 5 principles guide our tikanga and are reflected throughout each class.
