It’s been a while! I have been immersing myself in the season of winter and “going in” Opportunities to reflect and be with the stillness, the beauty of winter clarity and….to the power of the dark. At a recent weekend workshop for the solstice, we created a beautiful ritual to honour the dark and rest in the stillness of it. Many of us may have had childhood fears of the dark, or still do, and that’s not unusual. Yet there is also a time for this to be with its soothing potential and let ourselves rest and be. After honouring the dark, we then welcomed in the light. It was a beautiful ceremony with a procession of candles and surrounded by the warmth of friendship. The sacred act of personal and group rituals is comforting, uplifting and energy shifting. It creates space for healthy reflection, release, transition and transformation. One of my favourite rituals is sitting with a golden flame, writing ✍️ and drinking ginger tea to warm me from the inside and keep my digestive fire 🔥 strong. Sacred rituals are potent and nourishing. What are yours? Manawatia Matariki ✨

Co-creating the Picton Retreat with my fellow Dru yoga teacher and good friend Fi, Dru Yoga with Fiona was a delight. This was a sold out event and there wete lots of smiles as people floated home, “feeling so nutured” was a noteable theme. I started feeling into what this day would look and feel like many weeks ago. Dr Jo Dispenza says that all possibilities exist within the quantum feild. If we can see it (and even if if we can’t) then it is available. I kept imagining a light-filled space filled with relaxed and smiling people. Each person feeling nutured and nourished. Sitting on my meditation cushion, I would amplify these feelings until my brain automatically began to associate these feelings with this event. The day arrived. looking at these photos, I feel all those feelings arise and it reminds me that we are powerful concious creators. As the late great Wayne Dyer says “ You’ll see it when you believe it” ❤️ So grateful to our Dru Yoga community and all the sweet souls who came to the retreat. Looking forward to the next one!

Some women may prefer diamonds….but give me a meditation set up any day and I will be so happy. 😀 Sitting comfortably is really supportive of a regular meditation practice. My hips have always been on the tighter side, anatomically, this is my unique pelvic design. Not everyone is able to sit in “full lotus” in fact this is inaccessible to many. There is much we can do to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in our hips, and there is also the wisdom of accepting our bodies as they are. Soooo this compact set up means my pelvis can tilt slightly forwards to create spaciousness in my sacrum, which supports lengthening my mid (thoracic) and my cervical spine ( back of the neck). The whole effect of this seated position enables me to sit in “relaxed alertness” so that I am ready to sit in stillness and feel the benefits of meditation. 🧘‍♀️🙏🏽 I am thinking of starting a regular and affordable meditation class via zoom. PM me if you are interested. 🫶

Sunday Self-Care 🪴

Dr. Kristin Neff on Nurturing Yourself with Self-Compassion 🙏🏽

“The number one thing I’ve found in my research is that people think it’s good to be a little self-compassionate, but not too much. There is a strong belief that we need self-criticism to motivate us. Meaning, ‘If I’m not hard on myself, I’ll let myself get away with everything.’”

This reflects a fundamental misunderstanding about what self-compassion is: being kind and supportive with yourself when you’re confronting personal weaknesses, challenges, and setbacks. “Self-compassion goes beyond self-acceptance, it has an active element of caring, of wanting the best for yourself. It means saying to yourself, ‘I want to heal, to be happy, to be healthy,’ and knowing that sometimes requires you to make a change.”

If you view the change you’re trying to make as an act of self-care instead of trying to motivate yourself with anger or rejection, you’ll be more likely to succeed.

Growth is nearly always imperceptible as it’s happening, trust the process, a little each day (small is the all) …First photo, around beginning of March, and today! This reflection inspires my practice, even the days “I don’t feel like it” or the days that feel upended, like …” what the heck am I doing this for anyway” they all count. Prioritising stillness and practice of stillness is a big challenge in our modern busy hectic distracting world. However it’s always there to visit and rest in and supports us in ways that the mind, often cannot consciously perceive.
Reducing mind clutter opens us up to new ways of thinking. Being in stillness is like immersing our mind in a warm soothing bath. It comes out a little fresher, a little more sparkly and ready for inspiration to seed itself within us.
