Last month Sophie and I did a local mini mission in the back blocks of Marlborough. Joined initially by Dan on his home cut tracks, we had some great banter. And with an afternoon school pick up deadline on the cards, we had to stay moving swiftly. All in the nick of time 😉 👏

What a bunch of sports keen Physios do on a weekend together in a lab… Force plate testing, blood flow restriction training, VO2max testing, high intensity interval training and playing with plyometrics. Heart and lungs 🫁 definitely had a workout. Now to move my learnings from lab to clinic … 😉

Friday we tried on some quality kit at Macpac HQ, chatted logistics and talked adventure packs with the gurus behind the scenes.

Whilst 2 of us pretended to be the OG - Original Gangsters 😜, Macpac listened to our needs and took pen to paper.

Another reason to love this outdoor apparel company that little bit more, they listen to the adventurers wearing the kit in realtime. Macpac don’t want to just make great looking kit, they strive to meet the physical needs of those walking the walk too.

Here’s to more collaboration over the coming few months…. 🤜🤛

45km, a whopping 3500m of vert and a fair few expired gels (note the facial expression in the second photo 😂) bought and I home in 2nd place in open females. A big day out on MacDonalds farm for the 12hr Heights of Winter Rogaine.

Some sweet Nav found us the waterfall check point , twice in fact, having got so excited to find it I then had to go back to dib it as I realised snapping the photo I forgot to dib!! 🤪

Thank you to the land owners of some stunning spots and organisers for a great day 🙏

Wulong 2024. A race to remember!

Highs:
- Pulling out a perfect rugby 🏉 line-out (my first ever) to grab a map from a few meters up a rock face
- The laughs; our positive attitude and team work
- The sharing of advice and info from more experienced teams; kiwi adventure races are just great human beans 🫘
- Seeing part of the world I never new existed and getting to bike, run, climb and crawl right through it 🌴
- Observing the incredible organisation that goes into such a phenomenal race

Lows
- Observing the nasty effects of heat stress in teammates and feeling pretty helpless for them
- Admitting I’d miscounted the corn cobs 🌽 and had to run back down the hill to grab 3 more, rendering the nic-name 57 cobs 🤣
- Realising we’d had a language misunderstanding having been told PFD’s would be available at the rafting transition and they weren’t. We are eternally grateful that saved our bacon at the last min! 🙏
- Drinking gone off race fuel, it dosnt keep well in 40 degrees 🥵
- Missing the cut off time on the final day - 900m vert in just under 9km in nearing 40c caught out 10+ teams. So harsh but that’s racing.
- I didn’t see a panda 🐼

Myself and Team CPNZ Marlborough head over to China today for 4 days of hard out adventure racing. We’ll be trail running, mountain biking, abseiling, caving and kayaking and with temps looking to be mid-high 30s, she’s definitely going to be a hotttie! 🥵

We will have a dot to watch but with different laws around social media over there im not sure we’ll get the word out on exactly how to follow along. So sit tight and know that we’ll be consuming copious amounts of sugar and electrolytes whilst immediately sweating it straight out somewhere in the bush of central China.

This girl hey. Two weeks out from Wulong Mountain Quest in China and I’m one teammate down. There are not many besties that would step up to toe the line but you have pulled an absolute epic. We are going to flippin CHINA. 🇨🇳

This week has been a rollercoaster and truely gutted to loose my number one wingman ‘Pogacar’, throw in sinusitis 😷 and one taper week has become two. When needs must, I’ve opted for rest hard to race hard. Thanks for the support .greer , and for not giving me any other option other than to rest hard!

On a positive note, Meg is currently fighting fit and smashing it out on a cycling stage race in Timaru this weekend! Go Well!! 🚴🏼💨💨💨💨💨

FYI I have removed the C2C helmet sticker now so now more looking like a plum 😆 although just you wait for our socks. 🧦 🤣🤣

The excited eyes of when adventures are on the horizon. Kings birthday weekend hubby and I shared an overnight mini mission into the Leatham Valley. There’s something perfectly simplistic about being tucked up in our sleeping bags at 7pm, fire roaring and listening to Deer Wars podcast. 🦌 With a great deal of deer culling happing in Marlborough back in the day, it was fascinating to sit and listen by candlelight and imagine what it must of been like back then for the young guys fresh out on the job - both thrilling and frightening. Lucky for us we saw no hunters nor low flying helicopters 🚁 🦌

Being cruisey with speed, I didn’t need to economise on space. I opted for my Harper 50L backpack; I had the luxury of all my warm gear, sleeping bag and ‘just in case’ tent 🏕️ but without feeling weighed down with a bigger pack. The Harper itself is so light, it’s easy to throw in a few more ‘why not?’ extras like hut slippers. 🤭🤫
