Ecstatic Dance is a space to move freely without judgment, steps, or choreography.
It’s a journey led by music and your own inner rhythm — a chance to shake off the mind, soften the body, and let movement become medicine. People come to dance, release, reconnect, or simply feel more alive. There’s no right way to do it. Just an honest way.

The Summer Solstice marks the turning point of the light — the longest day, the peak of warmth, and a natural moment of celebration and renewal.
Traditionally it’s a time to honour the sun, acknowledge growth, and step consciously into the season ahead. It gives us a doorway: a threshold to reflect, let go, and welcome what’s next.

Our Cacao & Ecstatic Dance Solstice Gathering brings these threads together.
We open with ceremonial cacao from the Cacao Ambassador, to help you land gently in your body and heart. From there, the music guides you into a free-form dance journey — uplifting, grounding, expansive, whatever your body calls forward. We close with a settling meditation so you leave centred and clear.

This year marks the end of a 9 year cycle.

I sit in contemplation & reflection today, looking over the beginning of this cycle for myself. Oooopphhff

The first paragraph of todays writing is this:

"In 2014 I landed in Bali. Nothing to my name, but a recent breakup post some kinda crazy psychosis breakdown/through. After attending The Landmark Forum in Vancouver, I underwent an extreme cathartic release, which awoke me very abruptly into a new reality I had no idea how to maintain."

Sitting here today rather grounded and almost somber. This isn't bad - it feels like a deep acknowledgment of a profound chapter in my life.

Rich in depth, lessons, upheaval, learnings, experiences, heart ache, heart break - and necessary transformation to arrive at this very potent period in time.

Humanity is on a huge precipice of change, and I'm here for it.

For the longest time, I wondered why the life I lived looked so wildly different from how I observed other humans living.

Be Your Own Guru was born in 2015 - feeling rather true for the experience I was having, of listening deeply to my inner world and remembering I held all the answers within.

Nothing outside of me called me as loud as my innermost self did.

I figured, if we all just had the 'tools' we needed, we could all find that path back home to self. For me, the skills learnt during my courses of study, become foundational in re-wiring and relearning how to hear, listen and know myself after childhood trauma and disconnect - was my default as a mode of survival.

I know I'm not alone in this, now sitting wisely on the other side of my healing - I am granted the gift of sight.

I see wound up nervous systems on high alert.
I see shortened breathing and tight bellies.
I see stress, anxiety, and hear fearful language.
I hear walls of words that are designed to keep the inner world protected from potential threat.
I see masculine dominant conditioning scheduled to 'keep going'.

I know and now experience a life so far from these ways, that I sigh in gratitude and hold my inner being lovingly for what she endured. I held her, listened to her, and loved her to wholeness.

I've spent 20+ years diving, exploring, healing, integrating, embodying my studies and addressing my wounds and shadows and I wondered why. Why was this my path?

I now understand that I was being prepared for the times ahead.

For the great awakening that humanity is being invited into right now.

And so, I am sitting, awaiting, listening to what wants to emerge from this place, to be of service.

At present it looks like offering safe spaces to sink into. To aid the nervous system, and shift out of fight/flight, fear, masculine dominance, stress/anxiety.

If you’ve been feeling a bit “off” in your body lately, heavy, tight, guarded, wired, flat, or just… not quite yourself, this work might be exactly what you’re needing.

Fascia Unwinding is one of the most deceptively gentle modalities out there. From the outside it looks like my hands are simply resting on your body, but what’s actually happening is a deep conversation between your system and mine.

Your fascia holds the stories your mind has moved on from: old stress patterns, emotional bracing, unresolved experiences, the way you’ve learned to protect yourself, the way you’ve learned to push through.

Not another push.
Not another “keep it together and get on with it.”

Something slower.
Something steadier.
Something that lets you catch up to yourself.

Lately I’ve been hearing versions of this from so many people:

✨ “My body is tired in a way sleep isn’t solving.”
✨ “I feel achy and wound up, like I’ve been bracing.”

Lately I’ve seen *The Body Keeps the Score* circulating again, and it’s a good reminder of something many people sense but don’t always know how to work with:

Trauma doesn’t just sit in our minds — it settles into the body.
Into the breath.
Into the fascia.
Into the patterns we don’t even realise we’re holding.

Van der Kolk speaks to how the body “keeps score” of our lived experiences, and why talk alone often isn’t enough. Healing shifts when we include the body — when we create space for the nervous system and fascia to soften, unwind, and reorganise.

This is exactly why I’ve integrated **Fascia Unwinding** into my work.
It’s a gentle, non-force approach that supports the body in releasing tension and patterns it’s been carrying for far too long. People often describe it as a deep exhale they didn’t know they needed.

I once had a doctor look at my chart and ask, "So, the trauma is in the past?" I didn't have the words then. I just remember the thrumming in my own veins, the way my shoulders would lock for no reason, the stomach that felt like a clenched fist days after an argument. My body knew what my mind was trying to bury. It was a living, breathing archive of every shock my system had ever endured.

Reading Bessel van der Kolk's "The Body Keeps the Score" is like being handed the key to that archive. This book is not just a text on trauma; it is a radical re-envisioning of the mind-body connection. Van der Kolk, a pioneering psychiatrist and researcher, lays out, with devastating clarity and profound compassion, how trauma literally rewires the brain and gets trapped in the body, not as a memory, but as a physical, present-tense reality.

1. Trauma is a Civil War Within the Self
Van der Kolk’s central thesis is that trauma is not the story of something that happened back then. It is a physiological state to be re-lived. The brain's alarm system gets stuck on 'on,' leaving the body in a constant state of defense, at war with its own senses, its own safety. The past is not past; it is an ever-present physiological emergency.

2. The Mind Can Lie, But the Body Always Tells the Truth
We can construct narratives to survive, to make the unbearable seem neat. But the body refuses to be edited. It speaks in the language of migraines, autoimmune flares, chronic pain, and a heart that races in a quiet room. Healing begins when we stop arguing with the story and start listening to the flesh.

3. The Path Out is Through the Body, Not Just the Mind
Talk therapy can only take you so far when your body is still on the battlefield. Van der Kolk presents a powerful array of somatic therapies—yoga, EMDR, neurofeedback, and sensorimotor psychotherapy—that bypass the storytelling brain to speak directly to the nervous system. The goal is to teach the body that the danger is over, and that it is safe to inhabit itself again.

4. The Emotional Brain is Held Hostage
Trauma fundamentally alters brain structure. It hijacks the rational, "thinking" part of the brain (the prefrontal cortex) and gives ultimate authority to the emotional, survival brain (the amygdala). This is why traumatized people can't just "calm down" or "think rationally." Their brain's command center has been overthrown.

5. Trauma Shatters the Sense of Self
A core wound of trauma is the loss of ownership of one's body and mind. Survivors often feel disconnected, numb, or as if they are watching their life from a distance (dissociation). Healing, therefore, is not just about processing a memory, but about reclaiming the self—the right to feel, to desire, and to be present in one's own skin.

6. The Power of Rhythm and Relationship
Van der Kolk highlights two of the most fundamental regulators of our nervous system: rhythmic movement (like drumming, dancing, or swimming) and attuned, safe relationships. These are primal sources of comfort that can help re-regulate a dysregulated system and rebuild a sense of connection that trauma destroyed.

7. Trauma is Transmitted and Collective
The book extends beyond individual experience to explore how trauma can ripple through families (as in generational trauma) and entire societies. The body of a culture, like the body of a person, can hold the score of historical atrocities, shaping behaviors and health for generations.

8. The Limitations of Medication and Talk Therapy Alone
While sometimes necessary, van der Kolk argues that medication often just numbs the symptoms, and traditional talk therapy can sometimes re-traumatize by forcing a person to relive the event without providing the bodily tools to process it. True integration requires a bottom-up approach, starting with the body's physiology.

9. Healing is the Recovery of Play and Imagination
Trauma makes the world a terrifying and predictable place. Recovery involves rediscovering the capacity for play, creativity, and imagination. These are not frivolous; they are biological imperatives that allow for flexibility, spontaneity, and the creation of new, safe experiences.

10. You Can Re-write the Score
The book’s ultimate message is one of profound hope. Neuroplasticity means the brain can change. The body can learn new rhythms. While the scar of trauma remains, the debilitating pain does not have to. We are not condemned to be prisoners of our past. We can learn to live in the present, with a body that is no longer an enemy, but a trusted ally.

There is a line in the book that serves as a guiding light for the entire work: "The body keeps the score, and the body can be the door to the healing process." "The Body Keeps the Score" is a monumental, essential, and life-changing book. It is for anyone who has ever felt trapped by their own physiology, for anyone who has been told "it's all in your head," and for anyone who seeks to understand the deepest roots of human suffering and resilience. It is a difficult, often painful read, but it is also a map—the most comprehensive and compassionate one we have—leading out of the wilderness of trauma and back home to the self.

I'm heading over the hill tomorrow to Nelson, to dive into a course on Fascia!

I'm SO looking forward to immersing myself in the classroom, and new information.

The fascia system has been speaking to me for some time.

I am deeply passionate about how we as humans, can heal and unwind our bodies effectively to return to a homeostasis, an equilibrium, and working with fascia is just one magical way we can do that.

Our fascia stores memories of past events, that can inhibit our ability to grow, expand and move forward.

Addressing what is held within physically, emotionally, energetically we can unwind and release these patterns, memories and trauma.

What is a Holistic Health Session?

Holistic to me means means whole. Working with a whole person – all aspects of self. Our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical selves.

Health too encompasses the whole. Not limited to physical health alone, but mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. All aspects need to be harmoniously in balance for true health.

A session works with your whole being on every layer and level of who you are.

We work with where you’re at, and whatever layer of awareness you’re working with.

Clients may want to talk out a mental challenge, to find a new way to work with it, to address subconscious patterns that could be limiting them from moving forward or creating challenges in their lives. Perhaps something is happening with work, relationships, finances, health and really – any area of life.

Some people are working on an emotional level. Navigating blocked or challenging emotions. Many of us were never taught how to address our emotional landscape as children, so as adults we are remembering and relearning how to. We need a safe space to be able to address these tender parts of self.

Sometimes we’re addressing past lives that are running this physical reality. Things that we just haven’t been able to address and clear until this lifetime. These are held in our energetic bodies until such a time that life brings them to the fore and we can address them. Acknowledging what happened in whatever lifetime it did, so as to bring resolution in this one. Our energy bodies hold all the information we live this life and others by. We have our Chakra System, Meridian System, Auric Field and more in which we can access wisdom and ask for awareness, understanding and healing through our fields.

Then there’s our physical level. We may simply be learning how to eat right for our hormonal health, to lose weight, to increase our energy levels. We might be ready to engage in a weight training program to building strength and bone density.
