Churchill Hospital has celebrated a milestone anniversary, marking 3 decades of service to the Marlborough community. Friends and staff of the Hospital both old and new attended a gathering, held at the Pernod Ricard centre to mark the occasion.

Guests heard from a variety of speakers, who each shared their personal journey with Churchill, some as staff members, some as supporters of the Churchill Private Hospital Trust.

One such speaker was John Hyndman, a founding member of the original Trust.
John spoke of the motivations for establishing a private hospital in Marlborough, a concept which although met with scepticism at the time, has proved to be hugely successful and mutually beneficial for Marlborough’s public and private healthcare.

Originally established in 2022, Kaha Basketball Academy seeks to give rangitahi in Wairau (Marlborough) the opportunity to develop within their sport. A non-profit organisation, Kaha’s kaupapa is to support the development of rangatahi residing in Wairau not only as athletes, but as people; providing greater access to opportunities in basketball; while developing them as connected, involved leaders for the future.

This year, 22 young basketballers left Marlborough to embark on an immersive trip to play in Japan.

Churchill Hospital presented the award for “Junior Sportsman of the Year” at this years Marlborough Sports Awards 2024. Here is our lovely nurse Sally who presented this award standing with two of the nominees from Kaha basketball.

Huge congratulations to Finn McKenzie (multi-sport) the winner of this award.

Marlborough Girls' College Students ‘Boxing On’ with Churchill Support

Box on Boxing uses physical activity to address mental health. Lee Tepuia is a relatable influence for these young people, and boxing offers an outlet for the range of mental health issues they bring to class. This year’s programme builds on the success of last year’s pilot, with some students returning to take on leadership roles.

Churchill Hospital is Supporting the Youngest in our Community

Churchill Community Grant recipient, Plunket Marlborough provide a vital and long standing service to local families with children under 5 years of age. Opened just 5 years after Plunket was first founded in 1907, Marlborough Plunket now provides its services to over 1000 babies and young children. Over half of those seen, are determined to be high needs.
