As Aotearoa emerges from its bubble, there’s a much bigger chance of catching the flu. And, with international borders opening, we’ll see new and re-occurring strains of flu spreading in our communities.

The flu can be serious and make people very unwell. It affects the whole body and can last up to a week or more. As you get older your immune system isn’t as good at protecting you, even if you feel fit and healthy. That’s why it’s important to boost your protection with a flu jab.

If you're 55 and over and Māori or Pasifika, you can get your free flu vaccine at your family doctor. Some pharmacies also offer the free flu vaccine. For best protection, get your flu jab as soon as it's available.

You can find more information here: https://www.health.govt.nz/flujab

If you are aged 18 and over, and it has been 4 months since your last dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, you are now able to walk in and get your booster dose at some vaccination sites.

Online bookings through BookMyVaccine.nz will be available from 17 January onwards. You can also book your booster by calling 0800 28 29 26, between 8am and 8pm 7 days a week.

You do not need to have a booster dose to be ‘fully vaccinated’ for My Vaccine Pass. When you get a booster, it will be added to your My Covid Record account, and you can generate another pass if you would like to. However, all My Vaccine Passes currently expire either 6 months from their date of issue, or on 1 June 2022, whichever is sooner.

You can find your nearest vaccination centre here: https://www.healthpoint.co.nz/covid-19-vaccination/

Always wanted to grow your own maara kai at home? Now's your chance....🌶🥦🥬🍠🥔🥕🥕🥕🌽🌽

❗️ Would you like to learn how to grow your own maara kai at home? 🍆🥦🍠🥕🥔
We are seeking expressions of interest from whānau living in Wairau who would like the opportunity to grow their own kai at home. Whānau will be supplied with their own planter boxes and a starter kit which will include everything you need to get your maara kai up and running. Participants will be expected to participate in two one-day maara kai wānanga held at Tuamātene Marae.
The purpose of these wānanga are to help you get your maara kai up started, from gardening advice to sharing kōrero with other participants. Whānau will be guided along the way by an expert who has a large involvement with our Tuamātene maara kai.
Interested whānau are encouraged to contact our office as soon as possible to secure your whare/whānau in the programme 🏡
