Thinking about bariatric surgery? Understanding your BMI is the first step.
BMI gets talked about a lot — but not always explained properly.
We’re sharing this because BMI is one of the measurements surgeons use when assessing eligibility for bariatric surgery.
It’s not about labels or judgment — it’s about understanding your health and knowing your options. 🩺
A healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) falls between 18.5 and 24.9.
A BMI above this range is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 or higher falls into the obesity category. ⚖️
Research shows that higher BMI levels are associated with increased health risks and reduced life expectancy — particularly at BMI levels over 30, with greater risks seen at BMI levels over 40.
At New You, we want to help both women and men living with obesity make informed decisions.
We are not medical professionals; however, our perspective comes from years of research, real conversations, supporting people through their bariatric journeys, and our own personal experiences. 💙
Our goal is simple — to share honest information. The good, the hard, and everything in between.
Because surgery is a tool, not a quick fix, and you deserve to understand it fully before making any decision.
💬 If you’d like, we can help you calculate your BMI privately and talk through what it could mean for your journey. Just send us a message 🙂 Jo & Ness
