The Taylors Contracting team has been very busy helping to clear up windthrow to open up road access following the recent weather events in Nelson Tasman. One of the key tools in our arsenal is our Terex CBI Magnum Force 6800CT Horizontal Grinder. The grinder can process more than 200 tonnes of residue per hour. Nelson Tasman Civil Defence

Our Terex CBI Magnum Force 6800CT Horizontal Grinder, working for Downer NZ Ltd/Tasman District Council Road Maintenance Alliance helping with the clean up of flood debris along the Motueka River West Bank Road.

Our teams have been busy over the weekend assisting Fulton Hogan with urgent repairs on State Highway infrastructure impacted by the Motupiko River overtopping its banks.
Our initial response includes reinforcing high risk locations ahead of further potential weather impacts. Our teams are also engaged across various river sites, focusing on debris removal, reinstating access roads and assessing damage.

Our second season of rock export to Wellington from Port Tarakohe started on Monday 23 June with the first 1100 tonne loaded on board "Geronimo" departing Tarakohe at dusk. A slow trip across the Cook Strait at four knots!

A walk down memory lane back to 1987 when Taylors had a contract to put a 200-metre pipeline under the Maitai River, a tricky job that was very dependent on tide. The pipes were 4-6 metre lengths made of steel, lined with concrete and wrapped with rubber, and they were welded together to form the pipeline. At low tide a trench was dug across the river and a line-up of excavators used to lift the pipes into place. The final join had to be made virtually in the water at dead low tide so a bund was built and the water pumped out while Alan Skilton was in there welding, the combination of high energy electricity and saltwater making the job particularly complicated.

The Quarry team are at the Branch River to crush some AP30 Maintenance Metal for use on Marlborough District Council gravel roads. Great to be working with T C Nicholls again.
