Love this quote from Dr Daniel J. Siegel from his book 'The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture your Child's Developing Mind, Survive Everyday Parenting Struggles, and Help Your Family Thrive':

What a superbly written article by Jonice Webb on Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). Her book on this topic Running On Empty is also a great read.

Silent emotional neglect happens in different ways and leaves different effects.
