Simple Ways to Calm Your Nervous System

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a state of “on” - feeling wired and overwhelmed even when you’re trying to relax? That’s your nervous system in “fight or flight.”

Here are four simple, but powerful tips that can help you find your center.

* Take a Few Deep Breaths: This is the quickest way to send a signal to your brain that you are safe. Inhale slowly for a count of four, hold for a moment, and exhale even more slowly for a count of six.

* Use Cold Water: Splashing cold water on your face or hands, or even holding an ice cube, can activate your vagus nerve and instantly bring a sense of calm.

* Get Into Nature: Whether it’s a walk in a park, a few moments in your garden, or just standing outside, exposure to nature can lower your heart rate and reduce stress hormones.

* Practice Gratitude: Shifting your focus to things you are grateful for can change your brain’s chemistry. Take a moment to list three things you are thankful for to help regulate your nervous system.

While these tips can offer some immediate relief, sometimes we need a deeper approach to truly get out of overwhelm. My goal is to work with you to create a personalised plan to help your nervous system find lasting balance.

Welcome to 2026.

At the start of the year, there can feel a pressure to set “resolutions.”

I like a more holistic approach, which is less about rigid rules and more about alignment and intention.

Instead of a long list of “shoulds,” think about choosing an intention for your year.

Is it to be more present? To listen to your body’s signals? To set healthy boundaries ? Or perhaps to simply “say yes to opportunities “ more often?

My intention for 2026 is to continue supporting this beautiful community in finding balance, strength, and joy from the inside out.
