This is one of the most common questions I get, and the short answer is no, not at all.
While acupuncture is well known for helping with aches and pains, it’s actually a holistic form of medicine. That means we don’t just focus on one isolated symptom, we look at how your whole body is functioning together.
You might come in for pain, but we’ll also consider things like your sleep, digestion, stress levels, energy, and overall wellbeing.
Because when the body is out of balance, it doesn’t just show up in one way. It can appear as pain, fatigue, poor sleep, frequent colds, hormonal changes, or feeling a bit off without knowing why.
Acupuncture works by supporting the body back toward balance, so it can function the way it’s meant to.
So yes, we treat pain
But we also support so much more than that.

Got an ACC injury but didn’t realise acupuncture was included?
Acupuncture can support injury recovery by reducing pain, swelling and muscle tension while improving circulation to the injured area.
It also works really well alongside treatments like physio, chiropractic, or osteopathy.
If you’ve got an ACC claim and recovery is taking longer than expected, acupuncture may be a helpful addition to your treatment plan

“How did you become an acupuncturist?”
It’s a question I get asked all the time.
The funny thing is, I didn’t grow up understanding Acupuncture or Chinese medicine at all. I discovered it the same way many people do — through injury.
What started as treatment for my back eventually became something much bigger when I saw how Acupuncture could support my nervous system and mental health during a really challenging time.
That curiosity slowly turned into a decision to study Traditional Chinese Medicine, and eventually open my own clinic.
Sometimes the things we stumble into end up shaping our whole path.
I’m very grateful this one did 🙏🌿

I wanted to share a few of my favourite habits I’ve started since I learned about Chinese Medicine.

It’s nothing complicated! Just small practices that support the balance of qi in your body and nervous system.

1. Gentle morning movement. Just a few minutes of movement in the morning can help wake up the body, improve circulation, regulate the nervous system and prevent muscle aches and strains throughout the day.

2. A warm breakfast. Warm breakfast, ideally eaten between 7am and 9am when your body is in its best state to digest food, will support a strong digestive system and give you energy to start the day ahead.

3. Keeping your body warm, particularly the feet. The feet connect to many of our bodies meridians and are an important component for allowing qi into our body. Keeping your feet warm boosts circulation and prevents illness from attacking the body.

4. Self massage or acupuncture. A few minutes of patting our body or acupressure help regulate the nervous system, calm the body and mind, and support the smooth flow of qi through our meridians. It’s also a great way to ground into your body.

Little consistent habits make a difference over time.
Save this post if you want to try adding any of these habits into your daily routine 🙋🌱🫶

That stiff back still bothering you?
The one you keep stretching, cracking, ignoring… hoping it will settle on its own?

Maybe it’s time to try something different.
Acupuncture works by supporting circulation, reducing tension, and calming the nervous system so your body can actually shift out of pain mode. Many people are surprised by how relaxing it feels and how much lighter they leave.
New client bookings are now open, and I’d love to support you.

Whether it’s back pain, stress, sleep issues, digestion, or an ACC injury, we’ll create a treatment plan that’s tailored to you.

Come and experience the difference for yourself 🌿
You can book via the link in our bio.

“I tried acupuncture once… it didn’t work.”
I hear this more often than you might think.

Acupuncture isn’t usually a one-session fix. While some people feel immediate relief, real change often happens with consistency. Just like building strength at the gym or taking a course of treatment prescribed by your GP, it works best when it’s given time to build.

The number of sessions you need depends on what you’re coming in for, how long it’s been going on, and how your body responds. We create an individualised plan together and respond to your bodies needs.

If you’ve tried acupuncture before and felt unsure, it might not have been that it “didn’t work.” It might simply have needed the right timing, frequency, or treatment approach.

If you’re curious about what that could look like for you, I’m always happy to chat 🌿

Something I commonly get asked is; ‘is acupuncture safe and are there any side effects?’ Acupuncture is extremely safe when practiced by a qualified professional. Sterile, stainless steel single use acupuncture needles are used to ensure a high standard of hygiene is always used during acupuncture sessions.

Side effects from acupuncture are minor and when considering the standard side effects from common medicines we take, acupuncture side effects are much less. The most common side effect would be minor bruising at the needle site. These bruises are generally a few centimetres and dissipate after about a week on their own. Bruises are not guaranteed, it often depends on the person and how prone they are to bruising.
Another potential side effect of acupuncture is dizziness. This one is much lesson common, and may only occur if a person is very weak or hasn’t eaten prior to treatment. I like to keep snacks in my clinic to ensure we never face this issue!

Here are some of my top tips to ensure you are choosing a safe Acupuncturist:
- Ensure your Acupuncturist is registered with the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand. This is a legal requirement for all Acupuncturists in NZ. You can easily check this by visiting the CMCNZ website and searching your practitioners name.
- Ensure your Acupuncturist is using single use acupuncture needles. This is also a legal requirement for practitioners, as re-using needles carries a high risk of infection.
- Ensure you feel comfortable enough with your practitioner to be able to ask them questions or say no if any part of their treatment plan doesn’t feel right to you. You are in control of your body and what happens in your treatment sessions, you should be able to freely communicate your needs to your Acupuncturist.

I share this information with you to empower you, not to scare you. I feel that as patients you deserve know what to expect from Acupuncture treatments! If you have any questions about any of these topics, feel free to drop me a DM.
