Kinesio® Taping Foundations Course

The course is held over 2 days and has a 4 hour online pre-course component that must be completed before the course starts.
This course is designed for Allied Health professionals and Manual Therapists. Attendees will, at the end of the course and with the passing of an online test, be able to use the letters CKTP® -Certified Kinesio taping Practitioner.

This course will allow you to
🔸Learn the therapeutic application of corrective techniques: Fascia, Mechanical, Space, Functional,
🔸Learn the difference between an underactive and overactive muscle correction application.
🔸Identify appropriate tension range for each corrective technique.
🔸Describe the difference between a ligament correction and tendon correction.
🔸Learn Lymphatic and Scar Management Techniques.
🔸 Learn to use Muscle Direction Tests, Screening Assessments, and Corrective Techniques to treat complex injuries such as Whiplash, Shoulder Impingement, and Chronic Knee Pain.
🔸Be able to confidently apply the Kinesio Medical Taping method to a variety of muscular, orthopedic and neurological conditions.

Hi, I am Heather Lever CKTI. I am the face behind Kinesio New Zealand.
My story with Kinesio® Taping started 9 years ago when I became the Therapist and Medic for Morrinsville College Rugby 1st XV team. I found that there were a few members of the team that had long term weakness joints such as shoulders and ankles. They had always been rigid taped to stabilise these joints for playing. One in particular needed to be Rigid taped to allow him to be the goal kicker.

I attended a class on rigid taping but got disillusioned that a 17 year old was being relegated to a lifetime of being rigid taped in order to continue to play rugby. I then learnt about the concept of Kinesio® Taping Method which taught that muscles don't need to be underactive. Wow this idea that I could strengthen muscles and support ligaments without restricting range of movement was music to my ears.
I attended the Kinesio® Taping Express 2 day course (now the Kinesio Foundations course) and became a Certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner.

To my absolute joy the 17 year old did not need to be rigid taped after a season of using Kinesio Taping Method techniques on the sideline and at practices. This ability to strengthen muscles when I had spent a working lifetime of always relaxing muscles to get rid of pain was a gamechanger.
Now it doesn't matter if my client is 3 weeks or 80 years old, the ability to strengthen underactive muscles is always one of my go-to's in my Remedial Therapy practice.

I have been teaching Kinesio® Taping since 2018 - firstly the Certified Kinesio® Taping Techniques course for non health professionals and now I am excited to bring Kinesio® Taping Foundations course for Health Professionals to New Zealand In person. I look forward to seeing you on my course in May in Cambridge

My client has been having treatment over the past few months for CRPS in the 1st metatarsal Joint. She had also twisted her ankle slightly.
Assessing, testing and Kinesio® taping to reduce pain and increase function.
Underactive taping of the Fibularis Longus muscle gave stability and reduced pain in the ankle.
EDF taping reduced pain message to target area over the 1st metatarsal joint. This is specifically placed based on epidermis, dermis and fascia testing. CRPS Pain level was down to a 2 at the end of the session.
