Can you believe it? Another year almost done. We've had some awesome highs, a few left-field curve balls and some sad lows as we said good bye to dear friends ...
But now it's time to have a wee break, smell some roses, gather our thoughts and re-energise in preparation for more adventures in '25. 🩵💛
Our office will be closed from noon on Monday 23rd Dec, and re-open on Mon 6th January.
Please take time for yourselves to gather with people who make you happy and pursue whatever activities bring you joy ... and we'll see you on the other side of New Year! 🎉🥳

Following fast on the heels of a successful annual appeal and as the season of giving has begun, we are thrilled to announce an annual endowment on behalf of the Wallis Family and in memory of Sir Tim Wallis who benefited greatly from the services of NZ Spinal Trust. The Wallis Family are committed to Peer and Whānau Support and this is where this new endowment will be applied. Thank you to our patron Prue Wallis and her family for this wonderful and generous ongoing support 🩵💛

Oh. My. Goodness.
We did it! 🎉
Or rather YOU did it! $25,000 raised AND Access Community Health is matching it – so $50,000 is going to ensure we don't have to cut back on any of our services. What an awesome achievement! 🥳
HUGE thanks to each and everyone of you who supported this Appeal … and extra special thanks to Access Community Health who agreed without hesitation to come on board and match donations😍
Throughout this appeal we've been inspired by Ted Lasso, but we're going to end it with a quote from another character - Jamie Tartt: "What better thing to spend money on than love?"
Thanks for the love peeps - right back at ya 💛🩵

When Toby was leaving Burwood in 2022, his parents Nick and Jo had this to say about their interactions with NZST “… the offices could not be better located on the several-times-a-day path between ward and gym. So often, with the doors always open, we have stopped by and asked a question that had just come up, questions that were always met with consideration and, invariably, a very helpful solution! To have such a wealth of knowledge in the corridor linking the two areas of recovery and rehab really speaks volumes to the role of the Trust itself and to have open doors and smiling faces in some of the most difficult and uncertain of times has proven to be a lifeline for us so I can only imagine that I speak for many, many more people.”
Yesterday our office was alight with excitement and pride when Toby’s parents shared this video with us. What an outstanding young man he has proven to be. 💙💛
Certainly a young leader of the future, with the world at his feet.
If you’d like to support NZST to help others achieve their best for a positive future, please donate to our Annual Appeal. https://nzspinaltrust.org.nz/annual-appeal/
*This has all been shared with Toby and his family’s full backing.

Monday morning is proving to be a goodie - the sun's out, the bellbirds are singing, and Roger just popped over for a visit 😍 He's currently an inpatient and was one of the first to donate to our Annual Appeal ... it was lovely to have a chat before he heads away home. When he donated he had this to say "As a current patient in the Spinal Unit experiencing the amazing care provided to us, it was a small token of appreciation."🩵💛
And his donation was matched by Access Community Health 🥳 Your donation will be matched too if it's made before the end of November ...

Our Annual Appeal runs for the month of November - find out more about the work we do and how you can help support us and New Zealanders with Spinal Cord Injuries.

We might be in the middle of our Annual Appeal (feel free to cut away and donate here https://nzspinaltrust.org.nz/annual-appeal/ 😉) but we still have many things happening in the background. One of these is prep for Christmas Wrapping 🎁🎄 at The Palms Shopping Centre in Christchurch ... hope I didn't scare you with the mention of Christmas 🫣
If you, anyone in your family, your friends, your work mates, your rugby team, your mid-week knit-and-natter group would like to help us out by taking on a shift, we'd be ever so grateful 😍
Volunteer shifts last approx 2-3 hours, and you'll NEVER have felt so loved ... the relief and gratitude on the faces of the people we save from the trauma that is gift wrapping is truly awesome 💛🩵🤣 Here's the roster - instructions included ... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XAVy84krp-0I__TLRzRMceZZRuMxZgOS/edit?gid=472641348 =472641348

So ... you already know our Annual Appeal is on, and that the money raised will help us support people in the SCI community (both in the spinal unit and out in the community) through Peer & Whanau Support; Return to Work services and the Library.🎉
But if you need another incentive to give, how about this? Donating makes YOU feel good 🩵💛😍 Here's a quote from someone who's already given to the Appeal:
"... it gives me such warmness in my heart knowing that our donations make such a difference in people's lives."🥰
Go on - give now and add some sparkle to your day 😘

It's that time of year again - our Annual Appeal for 2024 is now underway and we are excited to announce that Access Community Health are again matching donations dollar for dollar up to $25,000! Last year’s appeal was tremendously successful and we hope to repeat that success with your support. Please click through to our Annual Appeal page for more information - https://nzspinaltrust.org.nz/annual-appeal/ plus three different ways you can donate! If you are unable to donate please help by sharing this post with your friends and family online.

25/10/2024

Our Annual Appeal is on now - and every dollar you donate, will be doubled by Access Community Health as they match it - Hooray! 🥳
We've been influenced by this year ("Doing the right thing is never the wrong thing") and making sure our Community Peer & Whānau Support; Return to Work Support; and Library service can continue to be offered free of charge to everyone who needs them ... despite major government cost cutting.
