From my mid 20’s to early 30’s I would walk into a gym and these are the dumbbells I would start with - the 50’s, they were never really that heavy to me and there wasn’t really anything heavier in those days.
I had my first and second surgeries at age 19, and then I had my left elbow done, my left shoulder, then my left Achilles, left ankle, left elbow again, right shoulder and even a brand new nose, all from training (a lot), rugby league, boxing and MMA.
After my second elbow and second shoulder surgery I never really got my former strength back in my upper body.
I continually overtrained and pushed my body in the bush chasing pigs with average sleep whilst building loads of businesses. 8 years ago surgeons advised me that they now want to do my right elbow and both my hips, but I said no way I’m fine! And guess what after some stem cells, cold water everyday, and a healthy lifestyle I still am fine!
Anyway, I always wanted to lift these again, and this morning it happened! Finally!
It’s amazing what resilience, a focused program (🙏🏽 AJ), and some rest can achieve, even with a new baby that never sleeps! Haha
Anyway, I’m happy, mauri ora whānau!
