🦻 Yesterday was Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) awareness day 🦻

Many people don't know about the existence of APD, however it's estimated to affect over 6% of New Zealanders.

Some of the common symptoms for children and adults are:
Difficulty understanding instructions
Difficulty hearing in background noise
Poor working memory skills
Trouble reading or writing
Lack of attention or easily distracted

In Christchurch, Bishopdale Hearing is the only clinic (aside from the University) offering regular APD assessments, and our wonderful Bradi is the only Audiologist that we know of who provides Auditory Training and Therapy for APD alongside hearing assistance devices.

A very exciting morning here at Bishopdale Hearing - it's our new Audiologist Corey's first day today!
Corey is an experienced, local Audiologist who grew up in Bishopdale. He even used to work at the butchery next door to us!

🌟 Another amazing review from a patient of ours 🌟

" I first visited the clinic and saw Emma for a cleaning. She was so friendly and helpful and encouraged me to have another hearing check as I had stopped wearing my old hearing aids that were ten years old and was struggling with mental fatigue daily. I hadn’t made the connection between my constant tiredness and headaches with not wearing my hearing aids as it was taxing my brain struggling to hear all the time.

I then saw Bradi for a full check and got new hearing aids which has been life changing for me. I’m a new woman! Being only 50 yrs old I was always a bit self-conscious of wearing my old hearing aids. These new ones are so discrete and with the benefit of blue-toothing to my phone etc it’s amazing.
I appreciate the time the team gave me to learn how these new aides work and all the many wonderful perks that come with them.
Bradi and Emma are so genuine, kind and patient and have a lot of empathy that I felt so cared for and always left the clinic with a smile and a great attitude towards my hearing loss, that it doesn’t have to be a negative thing in your life with hearing aids to help!

Thanks so much ladies and all the team there. Even though I live on the other side of Christchurch I will continue to go to Bishopdale just for the lovely people there! "

We were spontaneously nominated by one of our new patients after his fantastic experience with our Nurse, Emma 😍

❄️Bradi is currently in Antarctica! ❄️
We gained the contract for the United States Antarctic Program to do all their hearing conservation work at McMurdo Station - an absolute once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
We have our wonderful locum audiologist, Katrin, in the clinic filling in for Bradi (along with our awesome Emma and Jo), so don't hesitate to contact us if you need anything while Bradi is away frolicking with penguins 🐧
