We're just so lucky to be surrounded by such incredible colleagues and friends who support our mahi — and this week, we’ve had the absolute privilege of teaming up with the amazing Karena Findlay from Succeed Differently. Karena is a deeply experienced social worker who brings insight, warmth, and real-deal understanding to her mahi supporting neurodiverse tamariki and those who care for them. 💜

Looking to try and boost some ngoi (energy) in these final weeks of term? ❤️ 🎉

Try putting on some waiata and ask tamariki to kanikani. Then shout out an animal and emotion, asking tamariki to move around like they’re that animal experiencing that emotion. No music, no worries, just call out the animal and the emotion wherever you are (inside or out) and enjoy the laughter and animal sound effects that come with it. Think about ending on the emotion you want to carry through to your next activity. This is a fun way to support tamariki in thinking about emotions and what emotions look like.

💡 Giving little brain boosts during learning to mix up long periods of sitting and providing a different focus has so many benefits for tamariki. These little boosts can increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which can improve cognitive function and concentration moving forward.

That's why this week we're sharing some super simple activities to dial up some ngoi (energy)! 🙌

👉 Follow the leader
Take tamariki outside and appoint a leader (changing to a new ākonga every few minutes) the leader moves around the school yard skipping, hoping, running, jumping, galloping, climbing, circling through trees, singing - whatever they choose. How good is some physical activity and fundamental movement skills!

We love sharing the awesome mahi our tīma does - it’s a great way for you to connect with us and see the people behind Manahau. ❤️

This week, Aaron from our tīma joined Anton Matthews on the Beyond The Hustle podcast for an inspiring kōrero about hauora, identity, mental resilience, and the power of Te Ao Māori in shaping strong, grounded tāne.

It’s a super cool kōrero and a must-listen for tāne, whānau, and anyone wanting to better understand the balance between strength and vulnerability. 🎧

FUSH

What does it mean to be a strong tāne? It’s more than just physical strength—it’s how we show up for our whānau, how we manage our emotions, and how we build resilience in all areas of life.

In the latest Beyond the Hustle episode, I sit down with Aaron Hāpuku, a leader in hauora Māori, mental resilience, and mau rākau, to talk about:

👉 Why real hauora isn’t just about how much you can lift, but how your relationships reflect your well-being
👉 The unspoken struggles of tāne Māori—and how we can shift the narrative
👉 The balance between strength & softness—how taiaha wānanga teach both warrior discipline and emotional intelligence

This is a kōrero that needs to be heard. Let’s start normalising these conversations around mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

It's Unity Week and we've got a new activity all about supporting tamariki to build empathy and strengthen friendships, ultimately creating a more inclusive classroom and all you'll need is your curious tamariki and a little bit of time.

Tamariki will pair up and identify as many things they have in common then kōrero about how we often only focus on differences, and while this can be okay, it can get in the way too. 💕
