These end of term reflection prompts can help you start up a conversation about the term that is not just academic, but instead focused on their overall growth.

They create space for tamariki to recognise their wins, work through challenges and notice how they’ve grown as people, not just as learners 💚

As the term moves along, it’s easy to get caught up in giving all of your energy to others. But small, intentional moments throughout your day can make a real difference to how you feel.

Whether it’s sharing a laugh with your tamariki, stepping outside for a quick reset in te taiao, or taking a moment to breathe and ground yourself, these practices can help you come back to yourself.

You deserve to feel well, energised, and supported too.

Try this simple activity with your class by inviting tamariki to notice and share the places that are meaningful to them. It might be the field they love to play on, a tree they always climb, or a quiet space they enjoy spending time in.

Ask tamariki to draw or photograph three special places and share why they matter to them. It is an easy way to build whanaungatanga in your classroom, helping tamariki learn more about each other while giving you a chance to connect more deeply with your class.

Let us know if you add this activity into your day 💚

Ngahuru (Autumn) mindful colouring activity 🍂🍁
https://www.manahau.nz/activities/ngahuru-mindful-colouring

There's something about getting out the crayons or pencils and just letting your mind relax as you fill in those little spaces. It's like a form of meditation, helping tamariki (or anyone) to de-stress and unwind from the day.

Colouring can also be a great mood booster! It can help us focus our mind on something positive and relaxing, giving us a break from any worries or negative thoughts.

Let us know if you try this one out 🧡

Lape is a fun game learned from our Samoan tamariki and community. It's similar to softball, but using any ball you like and your hand instead of a bat. It's a great way to develop teamwork, exercise and make our Samoan tamariki feel cool (because they are)!
Introducing this to tamariki who may not be so familiar with it is a great way to demonstrate that traditional games are important and valued. This acknowledgement, coupled with exercise and fun, are all great for tamariki hauora 💚

If you’re looking for a way to acknowledge Ngahuru (Autumn) in your classroom that feels meaningful and connected to what you’re already teaching, and you’re weaving in Te Whare Tapa Whā, this could sit really naturally in your classroom.

Ngahuru Surprises is an advent style wellbeing calendar where tamariki open a new hauora activity each day. It follows the rhythm of the season and gives you space for genuine kōrero without it feeling overly structured. You can begin it at any point during ngahuru, especially if your class needs a reset or a way to reconnect.

We can’t believe it’s almost time to start noticing signs of ngahuru already 🍂🌿

As the seasons begin to shift, it can be a beautiful opportunity to slow down with tamariki and notice what’s changing in the world around them. Taking time to observe nature supports curiosity, connection, and emotional regulation.

You might invite them to notice:
• What colours are changing in the trees or plants
• What feels different in the air, temperature, or light
• What sounds they can hear outside at this time of year
• How their own energy, body, or mood feels as the seasons shift

Short outdoor check-ins, nature walks, or even a few quiet minutes observing the playground or school garden can help tamariki reconnect, reset, and regulate. These small moments build awareness, grounding, and a deeper connection to te taiao and the changing rhythms around us.

Are you looking for a meaningful way to help ground tamariki after big feelings, big days, or to bring back a sense of calm in the classroom? We love this Youtube video from Wildling Books 💚

This beautiful guided breathing video from Wildling Books offers a gentle moment to slow things down. Tamariki are guided through simple belly breathing, breathing in peace and breathing out worries.

An easy tool you can return to again and again, whether in the classroom or shared with whānau to practice at home.
