πŸŒΏπŸ’¬ Meet Lauren – Our Health Coach πŸ’¬πŸŒΏ

At Burwood Health, we are proud to have Lauren as part of our clinical team in the role of Health Coach β€” supporting patients to make meaningful, sustainable changes to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

What Does a Health Coach Do?

A Health Coach works alongside you β€” and alongside your GP and Nurse β€” to help you better understand your health, set realistic goals, and feel confident managing long-term conditions.

Lauren can support you with:
βœ” Understanding a new diagnosis
βœ” Managing long-term conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or asthma
βœ” Lifestyle changes (nutrition, activity, sleep, stress)
βœ” Building confidence in self-management
βœ” Setting achievable, personalised health goals
βœ” Navigating community supports and services

Health coaching is not about being told what to do β€” it’s about working together. Lauren provides a safe, supportive space to talk through what matters to you and what feels achievable in your life.

Why Is a Health Coach Important?

Many health conditions require ongoing self-management. Having a Health Coach means you have extra time, guidance and encouragement to help turn advice into action. Small changes, supported well, can lead to long-term improvements in wellbeing.

Lauren works as part of our wider care team, ensuring your health plan is coordinated and centred around you.

If you think you would benefit from meeting with our Health Coach, speak to your GP or Nurse at your next appointment.

We’re here to support your health journey β€” every step of the way πŸ’™

🌸 International Women’s Day – 8 March 2026 🌸

Today we celebrate the incredible women in our community and around the world for International Women’s Day, a global initiative supported by organisations such as UN Women.

This year’s theme highlights the importance of continuing to accelerate progress toward gender equity β€” recognising the achievements of women while acknowledging there is still important work to be done.

At Burwood Health, we are incredibly proud of the women who make up the heart of our team. From our GPs and nurses to our reception, administration and leadership staff, the dedication, compassion and professionalism shown every day makes a genuine difference in the lives of our patients and wider community.

Healthcare is built on care, strength and resilience β€” qualities our team demonstrates daily. We are grateful for the knowledge, leadership and empathy our women bring into our practice, and we remain committed to supporting equity, opportunity and respect within our workplace.

Today, we celebrate you.
Thank you for all that you do β€” for our patients, for each other, and for our community πŸ’œ

πŸŽ’βœ¨ Is Your Child Turning Four? Book Their B4 School Check! βœ¨πŸŽ’

At Burwood Health, we support families through every stage of their child’s health journey β€” including the important B4 School Check.

The B4 School Check is a free health and development check for four-year-olds in New Zealand. It helps ensure your child is ready to start school and identifies any areas where they may need a little extra support before beginning their education journey.

🩺 What Does the B4 School Check Include?

βœ” Hearing and vision screening
βœ” Height and weight measurements
βœ” Oral health information
βœ” Developmental and behavioural review
βœ” General wellbeing assessment

These checks are designed to pick up any concerns early β€” whether it’s speech, coordination, hearing, vision or social development. Early identification means early support, giving your child the very best start at school.

The check is usually completed by a trained nurse and is a relaxed, child-friendly appointment focused on making your little one feel comfortable.

If your child is approaching their fourth birthday and you haven’t yet arranged their B4 School Check, we encourage you to contact us or visit our website for more information about our child health services:

πŸ’™ Living with Diabetes? Regular Check-Ins Matter. πŸ’™

At Burwood Health, we are committed to supporting our patients living with diabetes through regular monitoring, education and personalised care.

Diabetes is a long-term condition that affects how your body regulates blood glucose (sugar) levels. Without regular monitoring and management, it can increase the risk of complications affecting the heart, kidneys, eyes, feet and overall wellbeing. The good news is β€” with the right support and routine reviews, many people live full and healthy lives.

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Meet Jo – Our Diabetic Nurse
Jo provides dedicated diabetes reviews and works alongside our GPs to ensure you are receiving the best possible care. Regular appointments help to:

βœ” Monitor blood glucose levels and HbA1c
βœ” Review medications and insulin management
βœ” Check blood pressure and cardiovascular risk
βœ” Provide lifestyle and nutrition guidance
βœ” Arrange annual diabetes checks and referrals if needed
βœ” Support you with self-management education

Regular diabetes reviews are an important part of staying well and preventing long-term complications. Even if you are feeling well, routine follow-ups help us identify and address any concerns early.

If you are due for your diabetes check, we encourage you to book an appointment with Jo.

Friday 27th February 2026 is The Big Heart Appeal, supporting the incredible work of the New Zealand Heart Foundation ❀️

Heart disease affects thousands of New Zealanders every single day. It can impact our parents, grandparents, partners, friends – and sometimes people you would never expect. It remains one of the leading causes of death in New Zealand, which is why awareness, education and research are so important.

The Heart Foundation works tirelessly to:
β€’ Fund life-saving research
β€’ Provide heart health education
β€’ Support families affected by heart disease
β€’ Advocate for healthier food environments in Aotearoa

πŸ’“ Ways You Can Stay Heart Healthy:

βœ”οΈ Move your body daily – even a 30 minute walk makes a difference
βœ”οΈ Eat plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and wholefoods
βœ”οΈ Reduce processed foods, excess salt and sugar
βœ”οΈ Maintain a healthy weight
βœ”οΈ Quit smoking and limit alcohol
βœ”οΈ Get regular blood pressure and cholesterol checks
βœ”οΈ Manage stress and prioritise sleep

Every small step matters. Prevention truly is powerful.

On 27 February, consider making a donation, wearing red, starting a conversation about heart health, or simply checking in on someone you care about. Together, we can make a difference πŸ’•
