Better late than never! I am hosting another day retreat this weekend… Sunday July 20th in my happy place Te Onepoto (Taylors Mistake). The house is sooo lush and has the most incredible views of the ocean.

In Yoga and Ayurveda, Sattva is the quality of peace, clarity and harmony. It’s the lightness we feel when the noise quiets and when the mind is calm and the senses are soothed. This retreat is designed to cultivate Sattva within you. Through the oceanfront space, the slow and intentional practices, the nourishing kai, and connection with others.

I have two incredible wahine joining me to share their magic on the day..
j.bell will guide an intuitive writing practice: an opportunity to express yourself honestly and freely. Whether what comes is clarity, humour, rage or joy, it’s all welcome.

will lead us through a deeply restful Yoga Nidra session, also known as yogic sleep. It’s a guided meditation done lying down, designed to take you into a state between waking and sleeping.

There will also be two yoga practices led by me: one more active, one deeply restful. Both woven with pranayama (breathwork) and meditation to support inner stillness and Sattva.

All of the kai will be Ayurvedic, lovingly prepared to be gentle on digestion and grounding for the nervous system. I’ll also be offering a discussion on Ayurveda and how we can align more closely with the rhythms of nature to support our unique constitutions and live in greater balance.

There are two spaces left to join! Link in bio 🤎

In a world where there is an overload of stimulus constantly vying for our attention, our brains and bodies can become overstimulated. Returning to a passive, interoceptive and restful state is crucial so we can turn down the volume of the outside world.

Our brains and bodies respond instinctively to sound.. especially certain tones and frequencies. The vibration of sound has the capacity to calm the mind, regulate a restless body and even create cellular healing.

Come and receive sound and relaxation with and I this weekend (June 29) - we want to offer you sound in an environment that is calming for the senses, rather than overstimulating!

We’ll begin by gently awakening the senses.. through acupressure, breath, scent, and immersive sound, to help guide your awareness inward. From there, we slowly reduce stimulation, allowing the body to soften and the mind to quiet ✨

How Yin Yoga saved my life…

After being diagnosed with ADHD when I was a teenager, things began to make more sense…

The constant noise in my head, the impulsivity, the inability to finish tasks and focus my mind. I seemed to keep making the same mistakes, like my life was going around in circles.

My yoga practice started off as hot and intense, which only continued to exacerbate my symptoms. Sometimes I wouldn’t even stay for savasana.

It wasn’t until many years into my practice that I discovered the Yin approach to Yoga. At first I found it uncomfortable. I was restless, surely doing nothing wasn’t going to change anything? Oh how I was wrong.

Yin Yoga helped me to transform my restless mind. I felt more spacious, more at ease in my body, more patient, less reactive. I was gradually able to comfortably rest in sensation. To acknowledge whatever was arising in my body and mind, and relax and open to it.

Yin is like a spring cleaning of the body. In a Yin class, you dig deep through the layers of stuckness, to allow whatever has been hiding to surface. With time, you slowly start to experience the unearthing of things you may have been suppressing in your body. This is extremely cathartic.

What we do with our energy is what creates what we experience on the outside. If our energy is scattered or depleted, this is how we will experience the world around us. What I found when I practiced more Yin Yoga is that doing less enabled me to BE more. Slowing down was the radical shift I needed to truly balance myself inside and out.

If you need more Yin energy in your life, I have a few spaces left for my upcoming series, Cultivating Calm. Link in bio ✨

Ohhhh, how I have missed sharing the healing magic of Yin Yoga! I’m so excited to be back in Ōtautahi and offering this deeply nourishing practice once again. Yin Yoga balances not only your body but your entire being, creating space for physical, emotional, and mental renewal. 🧡

Yin Yoga is a medicinal practice that complements a busy lifestyle. An opportunity for you to take some well deserved time out of your week to simply rest and find stillness, as well as release blockages and tension in the body. This course places a strong emphasis on breathwork and meditation techniques to further deepen your practice and inner toolbox.

I’ll be offering my signature 8 Week Cultivating Calm Series around three different locations: Piko, Sumner & Ferrymead, so you can choose a day & time that works for your schedule.

Mondays starting Oct 14 - Piko Wholefoods
Wednesdays starting Oct 16 - Sumner Yoga Center
Thursdays starting Oct 17 - Opti-mum Ferrymead

My intentions for this trip didn’t quite go as I had planned…

I thought I was going to meditate for an hour a day, journaling, writing and focusing on self development. Our time at the Panchakarma centre and Ashram in India made it easy to drop in and focus on practice and well-being, but it was as soon as we stepped out into bustling Hanoi old quarter post-retreat that I realised I needed to reframe.. What did I really want from this time away? How could I find a balance of treating my senses to an array of new aromas, foods, people, history, art, music and experiences, yet as well having the ability to turn my attention inwards and disconnect from the senses in order to stay balanced within my inner self and nervous system.

Travel is an amalgamation of constant fluctuations. No day is ever the same, and you are constantly met with a series of different ‘micro’ situations and decisions to make.. As a person who is highly sensitive to different energies, there has been many instances where I have to dig down in the deepest parts of myself in order to remain stable and resilient through whatever shows itself. The most transformational learnings from this time have come from the ability to remain steady in the face of chaos, or from reflecting on when that steadiness wasn’t there and how it could be next time.

After 7 months without a ‘home’, the challenge has been to cultivate a ‘home base’ within myself. Remembering my limitations and boundaries, spending time in quiet and in nature as much as possible, welcoming the exhalation into the base of my being, and if feeling overstimulated, rather than resisting the situation, encouraging myself to lean into whatever is happening with a bubble of protection around me.

What have I learned? The importance of cultivating JOY into every moment.
