Learning About Ears with Little Listeners

One of our audiologists, Dr Melissa Babbage, recently had the absolute pleasure of visiting Discovery Junction – Styx Mill Preschool to chat with the 3-year-olds about ears and hearing.

The children loved learning how our ears help us listen and taking a peek at their own ear drums!

Starting conversations about hearing health early helps children grow up knowing how important it is protect their hearing and care for their ears.

A big thank you to the wonderful teachers and tamariki for welcoming us!

🎉 Bellbird Hearing is turning 5! 🎉
Our Ilam clinic has now been open for five years, and in February the following year we were proud to open our Timaru clinic.

Since then, we’ve had the privilege of helping our community hear more clearly, connect more deeply, and enjoy the sounds that matter most.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful clients, their families, and our community for trusting us with your hearing journey.

Here’s to the next five years of listening, laughter, and life in full sound!

September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Did you know that looking after your hearing is also looking after your brain health? Midlife hearing loss has emerged as one of the biggest preventable risk factors for dementia with research showing that even mild hearing loss can double dementia risk.

The good news is that is means by looking after our hearing we may be able to protect our long-term brain health and overall wellbeing.

This month, we’re joining the call to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and to encourage everyone to care for both their hearing and brain health.

If you or someone you love has noticed changes in hearing, now is a great time to book a hearing check. A small step for your ears can be a big step for your mind.

Let’s start the conversation — for healthier hearing, healthier minds, and stronger connections.

Our wonderful Ear Nurses, Anna and Sarah, have been busy learning at the Ear Nurse Specialist Group Conference in Christchurch this week. A special shout-out to Anna, who has also been hard at work on the organising committee, putting in countless hours to help create such a fantastic event.

We’re also very proud of Dr Melissa Babbage, one of our Audiologists, who presented today on the important topic of hearing loss and dementia.

Midlife hearing loss can cause an increased risk of dementia. It is important to optimise our hearing and treat any hearing loss in order to maximise our brain health.
